Could This Be the Best Alabama Team Ever?
For the first time since the AP has been selecting All-Americans, only one school has six players on the All-American Team and it is this year's Alabama squad.
In addition to Heisman Trophy winner Mark Ingram, linebacker Rolando McClain, defensive tackle Terrance "Mount" Cody, cornerback Javier Arenas, guard Michael Johnson, and kicker Leigh Tiffin were all named as All-Americans.
This was the second straight nod for Cody and the first for the rest of this squad.
Since 1964, only twice before has a program had five players on any All-American Team and that was Oklahoma both times.
This could potentially be the best team in the last half century to wear Crimson, in addition to being one of the strongest and deepest teams in college football history.
With Nick Saban stocking the shelves with top rated recruiting classes, this may be the first of many strong, deep teams in the years to come.
The Tide are one game away from immortalizing themselves along with other great Alabama teams from the past, claiming their 13th national championship.
A national championship is sure to enter them into the debate for top team of all-time.
This could be the first Alabama team ever to knock off the nation's number one and two teams in consecutive games should they best the Texas Longhorns in a few days.
By naming a record breaking six players to the All America team, the Associated Press feels this Alabama would be a team worthy of being in that debate.
