Open Mic: Where Would the USA Men's Soccer Team Rank?

Stop.  Time out.

 

How dare we brash.

 

Americans suggest we could compete on the same footing worldwide at a similar superiority level in soccer?

 

Why is it that you find the majority of the world’s best basketball, baseball and football players here in America where those sports were founded?

 

We of the sovereign U.S. of A., have a legacy of holding some degree of superiority in those sports.

 

Odd how that works.

 

You have to go to Europe, or Brazil, or some exotic international venue to find the source of the world’s greatest soccer players.  We didn’t invent the sport of soccer, even though it’s called football some places abroad.

 

So, let the natives of those countries, where soccer is the primary sport, enjoy the fruits of their creation.

 

Their soccer skills come innately, just as ours do for baseball, football and basketball.

 

Therefore, what right do we have to suspect, even for a fleeting second, that we can get a leg up on the world’s soccer stage?

 

Simply put, let the soccer gods continue to shower athletes from those countries whose heritage, whose legacy, whose main and primary sport is soccer with soccer superiority.

 

To the victor belong the spoils.

 

Let A-Rod keep swinging a bat, and the Beckhams of the world keep kicking the ball.
