Fantasy Football Championship Weather

Ryan LesterDec 27, 2009

Let’s take a look at the outdoor games this week to see if weather will play a factor.

Kansas City Chiefs vs. Cincinnati Bengals

Cincinnati is expecting some snow and 10-15 mph winds. The temps will be in the low 30s.

I would downgrade the Bengals’ passing attack a bit, as Carson Palmer has historically struggled in cold weather. He has averaged 188.3 yards, 1.75 TDs, and 1.63 INTs when the temp dips below 40 degrees. I’d expect a heavy dose of Cedric Benson.

I would also downgrade Dwayne Bowe and Chris Chambers of the Chiefs because of the Bengals' tough pass defense, along with the weather conditions. Jamaal Charles should have a nice day, though I wouldn’t be surprised if he fumbled once or twice.

Oakland Raiders vs. Cleveland Browns

Neither team has a reliable option in the passing game, so the flurries Cleveland is expecting aren’t a big deal. Jerome Harrison and Michael Bush remain sneaky championship-week plays.

Seattle Seahawks vs. Green Bay Packers

It’s going to be frigid with snow showers.

The Packers’ passing attack should be just fine.

Aaron Rodgers has 18 TDs and 6 INTs in eight games below 40 degrees. He does tend to run a bit less (9.1 ypg vs. 18.8). Ryan Grant's yards-per-carry increase as the temperature goes down, so start him with confidence. I’d avoid using Seahawks if possible, because of Green Bay’s defense, especially after their embarrassing performance against Pittsburgh last week.

Houston Texans vs. Miami Dolphins

Weather won’t be a factor.

Jacksonville Jaguars vs. New England Patriots

There could be some rain, and it could be windy, but at least you avoided that bad weather game from Brady & Co. Start  your Patriots’ with confidence. David Garrard has just one TD in six road games, so I would avoid using him and Mike Sims-Walker.

Carolina Panthers vs. New York Giants

Weather shouldn’t be a factor.

Baltimore Ravens vs. Pittsburgh Steelers

It could be a little breezy (10-15 mph winds), but it should be all systems go in this important matchup.

St. Louis Rams vs. Arizona Cardinals

Weather shouldn’t play a role. I would be a little worried that Kurt Warner could give way to Matt Leinart if the score gets out of hand.

Detroit Lions vs. San Francisco 49ers

The morning rain should give way in time. Weather shouldn’t play a role here.

Denver Broncos vs. Philadelphia Eagles

Weather shouldn’t be a factor.

Dallas Cowboys vs. Washington Redskins

Weather shouldn’t be a factor.
