Free Drew Willy: Colts Stars To Rest? | NFL Fantasy Football Rankings

Sean E. DouglasDec 26, 2009

Much has been made about the Colts' players and how much their starters will play against the Jets top ranked passing attack. While I've maintained that fantasy owners should go with their usual starters (unless you have solid depth) this week, a tip from the Colts may have been let out today, about how they will play their starting players.

Less than 24 hours before the Colts play their game against the Jets, the team has signed quarterback Drew Willy from their practice squad.

With this move, the Colts now have three quarterbacks on their roster, and it is starting to look like the Colts may indeed bench their stars for a portion of this game.

If the Colts do, in fact, bench Peyton Manning and others it could hurt fantasy owner's chances of winning a Super Bowl this weekend.

What Is A Fantasy Owner To Do?

You can look around from fantasy football site to fantasy football site this week and have mixed degrees of what fantasy owners should do about this situation. Some feel that you should go with your guys because this team is going for an undefeated season (even if they say they aren't in the press).

Others like Rotoworld's Gregg Rosenthal are putting out a hard line stance that you should bench your Colt players this week as they are a bad start and the coaches will bench their stars early in the game.

Again, if you have solid options on your bench, I suggest you use those players this week. Manning and the boys already had a tough matchup this weekend and the strong threat of being benched early doesn't make this matchup any better.

However, if you don't have a better play than using Manning, Reggie Wayne or a Dallas Clark on your roster than I suggest you roll with your star players.

These guys may only play three series, but they can do more damage in that time than other players do in a full game.

Out of all the Colts that you can use this week it is Wayne that has to be the most volatile.

Wayne will have to deal with Darrelle Revis , and he has shut down top receivers all yearlong.

However, the Colts are a great offense and Revis hasn't played Wayne in his career to my knowledge. This unfamiliarity (unlike when Revis plays Randy Moss) could play into Manning and Wayne's hands.
