Pittsburgh Vs. North Carolina College Bowl Spread Preview
It’s the Meinke Car Care Bowl in Charlotte. Pittsburgh plays North Carolina. The point spread varies greatly as most sportsbooks have Pitt -1.5 while they are -3 +105 at others. The total is 47.5.
Here is the gambling preview from OffshoreInsiders.com writer Shea Matthews:
Pitt/UNC would be a much more exciting matchup on the hardwood but we’ll take it for the Meineke Bowl too. The underdog Tar Heels get to play at the Carolina Panthers’ home field, Bank of America Stadium, and can treat this matchup like a home game.
North Carolina does its damage via the No. 6 defense in the nation. Aggressive defenders like Robert Quinn, Marvin Austin and Quann Sturdivant will bring the heat on quarterback Bill Stull but Pittsburgh will try to keep the ball in Dion Lewis’ hands. He established himself as an NCAA star this season with 16 touchdowns and averaged 136.7 rushing yards per game, good for third in the nation.
The fired-up Tar Heels will give Pittsburgh’s offense a tough test but can they score points of their own? Their anemic group averaged 311 total yards and just 174 passing yards per game. I just don’t see them keeping pace, especially since Panthers freshman Lewis will want to show the nation that he can excel against an elite defense.
Now Senior Handicapper Stevie Vincent takes a look and trends and angles. Records are against the spread. The Tar Heels are 7-1 as an underdog but 7-20 after getting more than 280 yards passing last game. The Panthers are 3-8 as favorites of three or less.
