One Hall of a Player: Taylor Hall the Best Player in 2010 NHL Draft.

Derek PivkoDec 24, 2009

If you haven’t heard the name of Taylor Hall then you are about to be introduced.

Hall, 18, leads the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) in points this season (59) as his team, the Windsor Spitfires are currently post the best record in the OHL.

Hall made his OHL debut during the 07-08 season when he lead the Spitfires with 45 goals and was third in points with 84 points, earning him OHL Rookie of the Year honors. Other notable names that have won the OHL Emms Family Award include: Patrick Kane, John Tavares, Rick Nash, and Joe Thornton.

This past season he was awarded the Memorial Cup MVP as he led the Spitfires with 90 points including the game winning goal for the Spitfires to clinch the Memorial Cup championship.

Hall has continued where he left off last year as the Windsor Spitfires are favored to repeat as Memorial Cup Champions.

While Hall continues to dominate the OHL, the NHL awaits for his arrival next season.

Hall is projected to be the first player taken in 2010 NHL Draft in June. NHL scouts have raved about the amount of talent that is loaded in this year’s draft class.

There hasn’t been a stronger class since the 2003 NHL Draft where players Marc-Andre Fleury, Eric Staal, Zach Parise, Ryan Kesler, Mike Richards, and Dustin Brown among others were drafted.

One thing that Hall separates him from the previous first overall draft picks is that Hall has won the Memorial Cup championship which demonstrates that he is a proven winner.

This winter Hall looks to continue to add to his impressive resume as he will be an integral part of team Canada at the World Junior Hockey Championships. There is no question that NHL Scouts will be in attendance.

One disadvantage surrounding Hall is that he has always played on a talented team. It will be interesting to see what happens if a team like the Carolina Hurricanes drafts Hall and expects him to contribute right away.

Despite the disadvantage of being around talented players, Hall looks to be a sure-thing prospect as he has already drawn comparisons to former NHL great Pavel Bure.
