Cancer and Sports: The Return Of B'Dawk, Jeff's Hair and Xmas Wishes

Judy DavidsonDec 23, 2009

Things here are interesting.  The Iggles clinched a playoff spot with 10 wins so far.  Michael Vick has become a non factor and Jeff is doing very well.

This weekend we have the return of the Eagle's most beloved player - not McNabb - B'Dawk (Brian Dawkins).  While Denver has not exactly been the winning-est team (that is being nice) , B'Dawk has been one of the best defensive players in the league.  He has become the heart and soul of the the Broncos.  Their wins are due largely to the improvement and leadership he brings to their defense (Hello, Philly?).  Unfortunately, we will see very little competition (something I hoped to see) when the Broncos come to town.  I really miss B'Dawk, even with our young super stars like DeShawn Jackson, there is a touch of class missing from the team.  Welcome Home B'Dawk, we love you!!

Eagles fans will not like what I have to say, but if they make it to the Super Bowl it will be largely due to the Football Gods.  I have been reading the pounding Drew Brees has taken from Eagle's fans and let me say that one loss does not a beatable team make.   I have said and will repeat...if things are aligned right, it will be a Saints - Colts Super Bowl.  It will also have my two favorite QBs playing.  BTW, McNabb is not in my top 5...sorry I do bleed green but with some sense of talent and sportsmanship.

To the home front, Jeff and I are both out of fantasty football playoffs...the dark horse, Josh, is in the finals!  We feel intense parental pride as we watch him pick up, drop and trade (and not listen to us!).  The Davidson honor is on his shoulders.  We have been pretty good in the pick 'ems though, Jeff and I held first place this week til the Monday night game (aargh) no thanks Washington!

Our Penn State Annual Bowl Party is still on - a last minute decision as we waited to see if Jeff came off the DL and was ready for some fun...and there is the big Winter Classic hockey game...and we hope the Flyer find energy in the cold outdoors.  January 1st will still be fun though January 7th looms overhead.  What would we do without sports?

This is all keeping us distracted as we prepare for the trip to MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.  Jeff is sprouting hair and feeling better than he has in a long while.  I hope he is up to his screaming self by Super Bowl Sunday.  We still are not out of the woods and surgery will be followed up by another trip to Houston for radiation.  That will probably be right around March Madness - our timing is amazing!

Finally, to all my readers...

Have yourself a merry little Christmas
Let your heart be light
From now on
Our troubles will be out of sight

Happy Holidays from us to you!
