Denton RamseyDec 22, 2009

It appears as though Von Wafer may soon be back donning Houston Rockets red.

According to NBA.com , Houston is on the verge of re-signing the 6’5” Wafer, who paid approximately $1.2 million dollars to buy out his Greek contract.

Wafer is slated to rejoin the Rockets after passing a team physical.

At a young 24 years old, Wafer (who averaged 9.7 points in 63 games with Houston last year) will be a welcome addition to the Rockets bench.

With Chase Budinger out for at least two more weeks with an ankle injury, Wafer will likely pick up immediate minutes upon his return.

“I think he proved last year that he could play for us,” Rockets head coach Rick Adelman told NBA.com . “We’ll just have to see how everything works out. We obviously know him and know what he can do off the bench, so we’ll see how it plays out.”

Last season, Wafer was absolutely a spark off Houston’s bench and was a crowd favorite at Toyota Center.

Adelman is just hoping Wafer can quickly fit back in with the Rockets multi-talented group.

“You know what he did for us last year,” Adelman said. “And the way we’re trying to play, he fits in extremely well here. So it gives us a little more depth, and it gives us someone that we know and who had a lot of success with us last year.”

After defeating the LA Clippers tonight at Toyota Center, the Rockets are a season-high six games over .500 at 17-11.

Houston returns to the hardwood tomorrow night against Orlando as they face East's red hot Magic in Florida.
