Toronto Moves Up, Grabs Schenn At 5th Overall
Maple Leafs General Manager, Cliff Fletcher, made a splash at tonight's first round of the NHL draft, trading the 7th overall selection and two conditional picks to the Islanders in exchange for their 5th overall pick.
With that choice, the Maple Leafs selected Luke Schenn, a bruising defenseman from the Kelowna Rockets.
He is just the type of player the Maple Leafs need, and he is someone I really think the Maple Leafs could build upon going forward.

Schenn brings an element of toughness to the Maple Leafs defense core, something they were sorely lacking this past season.
He is a hard nosed player, a guy who isn't afraid to be a leader, and as Pierre McGuire calls him, he truly is a "human eraser" who takes great pride in shutting down other teams’ top players.
He isn't completely inept offensively, but his defense prowess is his calling card.
Thoughts on tomorrow
The rest of the NHL draft commences tomorrow.
It will not be televised but it will be streamed live on NHL.com, which will also have live updates throughout the day.
It should be a more busy day for the Maple Leafs, as they have more draft choices to make tomorrow obviously, and will likely look to move more of their veteran roster players.
It seemed that despite all the movement tonight, no one was interested in dealing their first round choice, due to the depth of the draft.
However, tomorrow with six more rounds to go, Saturday could become very interesting.
Everything was pretty quiet on the McCabe and Kubina fronts, so I would certainly look for that to pick up tomorrow.
Be sure to check back here tomorrow night, as I will have a day two draft recap right here on Bleacher Report.
