Baylor Basketball Wins Again: Bears Improve to 9-1

Denton RamseyDec 20, 2009

Ten games in, the Baylor basketball team is 9-1 overall.

Thus far, the grass is looking pretty green in Bear Country for the Baylor men’s basketball team.

Head coach Scott Drew, entering this season with a quartet of players lost due to graduation, has a very young and talented green and gold team under his wings.

And with just one more game on their 2009 slate, the Bears are look appear to be absolute contenders in a solid NCAA basketball field.

In their final game at the Ferrell Center until Jan. 6, 2010, the Bears took care of business in a 94-63 rout over the University of Texas at Arlington.

Ekpe Udoh led the good guys one stat shy of a triple-double with 22 points, 16 rebounds, and nine blocks (he fouled out of the game with 2:04 remaining).

LaceDarius Dunn also notched double-digits in the scoring department, netting 17 points, while teammate Tweety Carter picked up a double-double while garnering 12 points and dishing out 10 assists.

According to Baylor’s Official Athletic Website, Udoh is the first player in BU history to record a 20-point, 15-rebound game since former Bear Lawrence Roberts did so against Texas Tech in 2003.

After taking a 51-31 lead into halftime, the Bears never looked back en route to their ninth victory of the season.

Baylor closes out ‘09 on Wednesday, Dec. 30 at Arkansas, before opening 2010 with a road matchup at South Carolina on Saturday, Jan. 2.
