Texans Back at .500: Too Little, Too Late in Houston?

Denton RamseyDec 20, 2009

All that Houston football fans want for Christmas is a Texan's postseason appearance.

Unfortunately, it appears as though Houston’s NFL fans may be waiting another year or longer for that precious gift.

Even with the Texans picking up a 16-13 victory over the depleted Rams this afternoon, the playoffs are still a long shot as Houston enters Christmas weekend with a 7-7 record.

Let’s pretend for a second that the Texans never choke and will wrap up the season with two more wins (at Miami and at home against New England).

Will that be enough to push Houston to postseason play?

It’s highly unlikely, especially in a division where everyone seems to keep winning.

Right now, the Texans are just barely “still alive” along with a handful of other AFC teams sitting at .500 (Miami, New York Jets, Jacksonville, and Tennessee).

Does Houston have enough left in the tank to make one final push for a 2010 postseason appearance?

Can Matt Schaub, Andre Johnson, and head coach Gary Kubiak survive these final two intense showdowns, with some fans already calling for an end to Kubiak’s reign as Houston’s leader?

NFL fans and Texans fans alike will know all these answers and more soon enough, as just two short weeks remain in the season.

Come Sunday evening on Jan. 3, 2010, will the Houston Texans get their ticket punched for the playoffs?

Let’s wait and see…
