Tom Cable: Make Or Break Time

D.J. O'ConnorDec 19, 2009

This season has been a lot like last year.  The Raiders had been blown out in several games (especially at home to Denver) and lost games they should have won (at home to the Chiefs) but the Raiders have also won games nobody thought they could compete in.  Last year they beat Brett Favre and the playoff contender Jets, this year they beat the Eagles, Bengals and Steelers...playoff contenders and the defending world champions.

Now the endings are alike.  Last year the Raiders were 3-10 going into their last 3 games, this year they are 4-9.  Last year they played two playoff contenders in the end: Tampa Bay and New England.  This year they have Denver and Baltimore.  Now to Tom Cable.

Last year Cable got everybody to push aside the several blowouts in the season and got us all to believe he was the right guy based on ending the season with back to back wins.  This year we have been blown out a lot but Cable can make us all forget about it if he can beat the Broncos, Browns and Ravens.

Cable may get a break from being judged in these games because Bruce Gradkowski is hurt.  If Cable can beat the hated Denver Broncos at Denver (which he did last year) beat the Browns (which he should) and beat the Ravens (remember the Bucs last year) then Cable could get another season in silver and black.  If the Raiders lose two of these games they will be once again 5-11, no improvement from last year.  If they win these games Al Davis may push aside the blowouts, save himself from another firing news conference and he will give Cable another turn.

For Cable it is time to lay it all on the line and go down swinging or fly high into next year.
