A Quarter Into Season, Kobe Leads MVP Candidacy
With the first quarter of the NBA season out of our way, it is now plausible to make bold predictions on certain aspects of the game and the championship, bold predictions on individual awards, and we’ve clarified what teams will be horrendous whilst we’ve illuminated what teams will make a run for it.
This is where the season gets interesting for me; I can now make serious assumptions on the game. I’ve made my guesses and estimates on the play-off bracket, on my rookie of the year, most improved player, coach of year and so on…
But perhaps my most intense pick every year at this time in the season, comes when I narrow down my MVP candidate to one. People might argue that after only around twenty games, it is near impossible to make a serious postulation on who will be named such a high award.
Yet, we’ve already gained a sense on who has a chance, on who it could be.
This is why I have decided to announce my pick for MVP in the BR community. To elaborate, this pick took no speculation in my mind; it was a sure shot. While the other awards took time to ponder, this one, like I say in the former sentence, took almost no thinking.
So, without further ado, my candidate is no other than…
Before you laugh or disappoint at this pick, think-- is there really any other player in the L deserving of it, or, at most, deserving of it more than him?
Kobe is second in the league in scoring, and, at the moment, his team holds the best record in the NBA.
Other candidates mentioned in such debates are generally the likes of Lebron, Wade, Howard, Paul. Yet, none of those players are nearly as valuable as Kobe has been all season. Lebron’s team struggles almost every other game, and he is clearly frustrated. Wade’s and Paul’s teams have begun their December woes; Howard is averaging less than an MVP candidate should be allowed.
Thus, this leaves us with only Kobe. He started off the season in mid-swing, playing as well as he had done in the final, and is continuing his tremendous play now, hitting two game-winning buzzer-beaters in the past week in victories.
It’s only been around a quarter of the season so far, therefore this pick isn’t as accurate as could be. But, we can still make our estimates, and right now the most sensible for most valuable player, would be no other than Bryant.
Obviously, me and my reader will have different opinions on such a matter; so please feel free to leave your comments at the bottom of the page.
