Cancer and Sports: And the Saga Continues

Judy DavidsonDec 19, 2009

It has been a while since my last article for many reasons.  Jeff is getting ready for surgery and ironically it is at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, part of UT, when UT plays 'Bama for the championship on the 7th.  So having adopted UT as our 2nd to PSU, we root for the Longhorns on the field and Jeff in the OR.   Sports are the glue that is holding us together.

One of the many reasons I have not continued to blog is that there have been lurkers out there that managed to contact me.  That said, blogging opens you to anyone, but this particular person is someone who caused Jeff great grief in his life and that is the last thing we need at the moment.  Another reason is I broke my finger (the one I flip) and turns out ripped the ligament off so I will be in a perpetual state of flipping the bird for the remainder of my years (unless a genius surgeon can repair it).  Life also happens when we least expect it and I paid a visit to the hospital as well... officially a "dizzy broad!"

As for Philly sports - my dream team is shattered and I think Amaro made a bad call...picture this line up...Halladay, Lee, Happ, Blanton and Hamels.  This is unbeatable but will never happen.  Cough up the bucks to keep Lee and make Hallady happy ... but NO!  So we trade away the untouchables that we would not trade for Halladay in the spring, and yes, we got Halladay but at what cost?  Lee had ice water in his veins throughout the playoffs.  Halladay faded in Toronto (who didn't?).  Mariners get a great pitcher and Lee goes into the great beyond of the forgotten.  Halladay gets to prove himself and I hope he does!  Hamels is a head case and must pull his act together.  At least they kept the great hitters.  Utley still tops my list as the best all around player on the Phillies team.

PSU made it to the Capital One "Who Cares Bowl" so no Bowl party (timing is bad anyway) and Temple made it to a Bowl!  Being an alum of both this is exciting - Temple in a Bowl and PSU (as always) in some Bowl ...Whoopee!  Nova won a football championship last night.  Will they get to the final four and beyond on B'ball?

Welcome back AI - you are filling the seats at Wachovia again!  Just being there is stepping up the game a notch (having more than 4,000 people in the stands helps too)! Flyers...hello???  Hopefully we will get a great Winter Classic when they meet the Bruins on the 1st...what a day for Jeff and the TV!

Eagles can clinch the division this weekend...with a little help from their friends...Eli and Tony!  B'West is out and the Reggie Brown jersey (yes I bought one) comes out...he was my WR in my 1st Fantasy league LOL  My two favorite QBs probably will play in the Super Bowl (own balls by both) Peyton and Drew Brees.  If not there is still the McNabb ball and Favre ball - got it covered in the house!

Tiger Woods, there is an old saying...If you thinks with your d**k your head is up your ass.  Well, Tiger, squeeky clean, is tarnished and now we found that Earl Woods also cheated on Tiger's mom.  Will the legacy be great golfer or cheating husband?  Considering the state of my right hand, I will gladly play golf with Tiger - when I hold a club I am also flipping the bird.  Something he earned honestly!

Good bye to Chris Henry ( my 1st Fantasy league draft) as the coroner tried to rule his death accidental, homicide or suicide.  What a troubled soul.

More to come later,  but most exciting is Jeff is growing his hair back!  By spring training he will be his old self!  He just might get to go to Spring Training and meet Roy Hallady!  Been a rough year so he deserves it!
