Suh Thing? Draft Preview

The Sports Shrink Erik SpauldingDec 18, 2009

It's never too early to have a little fun with April's NFL Draft. I will give you my early thoughts and what you should look for from a fantasy prospective.

Before we get started keep these 3 things in mind leading up to the draft, season, and when considering rookies in your future fantasy drafts.

1. Collective bargaining and how deep it could make this draft, or how weak next years could be.

2.2012 will be an incredible year for impact talent.

3. Coaching changes are huge. Be careful when looking at any team who doesn't solve their vacancies by April.

Now to the fun!

#1. Tampa Bay - Ndamukong Suh DT NEB

When you draft first overall your probably have more then one hole to fill and Tampa is no different, Suh is a no brainer and a corner stone for years to come. If your league uses IDP's and tackles are big this guy could nail the top 10 from the day he hits camp.

#2. St Louis - Eric Berry S TEN

I know I know they need a QB, but Stevie Spaggs is a D guy and you have to think Mike Vick in the dome would be an idea they would drool over as a short term fix while addressing other needs. This team is not going to change over night with the likes of Clausen or Bradford let alone deal out that kind of money. If they fall in love with Bradford don't be shocked to see them trade down to off set the money.

#3. Detroit - Russell Okung OT OKST

Not a sexy pick by any means but that’s not what they need this time around, DT is a need also but the Shaun Rodgers rumors have to have truth to them.

#4 Cleveland - Gerald McCoy DT OKA

Shaun Rodgers is going to run a 4.3 out of the city that rocks, McCoy is a solid fit to slide in and sure up a decent and improving D.

#5 Kansas City - Joe Haden DB FLA

KC has to get someone to cover Marshall and Jackson so why not go with the guy who may be the fastest guy at the combine? Don't you think it might also tick off Al Davis (Loves fast guys ala DHB)? Bowe is also a question mark but they should address that in later rounds.

#6 Washington - C.J. Spiller RB Clemson

I truly believe they trade out of this slot. If they go looking QB watch out for Jimmy Clausen but with Portis questionable and Mike Shannahan looking hard at the job he will find a running game and quick.

#7 Oakland - Trent Williams OT OKA

I don't think Al is smart enough to make this pick and Jimmy C will be praying the old man over looks him. At some point coach Cable will get O-line help or break someone’s jaw....arrr I mean ahhhh lets just move on to the next pick.

#8 Buffalo - Jimmy Clausen QB ND

They need a WR like Tiger needs a prenup but TO says he will stay if they draft Jimmy and hire Charlie as at least O coordinator.

#9 Seattle - Derrick Morgan DE GT

Injuries have killed two seasons in a row, both D and O lines need work and Morgan provides a freak off the corner to chase around the not so great QB's in the NFC West.

#10 San Francisco (from Carolina) - Taylor Mays S USC

Home town hero reminds allot of people of Rod Woodson, I don't think he rates that high but a hard hitter coach Mike will ball hawk.

#11 Denver (from Chicago) - Rolando McClain LB ALA

Josh Mac will continue to up the ante on the already stout D, McClain can flat out ball and with Elvis Dumerville rushing the passer this guy will rack up tackles week in and week out.

#12 Pittsburg - Earl Thomas S TEX

They have to address getting burned week after week with out the man of Troy and his hair, Thomas provides the best bet at this slot.

#13 San Francisco - Sam Bradford QB OKA

The green room can be a lonely place sometimes but Vernon Davis, Frank Gore, & Michael Crabtree will make everything better for this slipping QB who teams will be afraid of due to the lingering shoulder pain.

#14 Atlanta - Dez Bryant WR OKST

Someone has to help Roddy White, Tate is an option but I have a hunch here. They need help on the D side but in a deep draft they can get away with this one.

#15 Tennessee - Terrence Cody DT ALA

They miss Fat Albert and only a guy pushing 400lb could replace him. A reach but worth the risk.

#16 Houston - Carlos Dunlap DE FLA

Pass rush pass rush pass rush, say it with me know coach K, if you still have a job....Two words....Bill Cowher

#17 Jacksonville - Brandon Spikes LB FLA

Tim Tebow will be there in round two, I like Spikes or Tate here. Big needs for a team always right on the edge of breaking out.

#18 NY Jets - Golden Tate WR ND

Sanchez has little help & Braylon was a bust. The D will improve in free agency.

#19 NY Giants - Patrick Robinson CB FLST

G-men need cover help badly and Robinson should provide a speed guy to blanket the likes of Jackson and Austin.

#20 Baltimore - Jermaine Gresham TE OKA

Todd Heap isn't getting any younger or better and Flacco can't do without a go to TE

#21 Miami - Navorro Bowman LB PNST

They are flat out old at LB, WR is a need but Bill Parcels has a rep of not taking them in round one. Hartline and Bess will to the job for now.

#22 Dallas - Sergio Krindle LB TEX

A home town pick to smooth over the grumpy fans, but they won't forget another December melt down.

#23 Arizona - Anthony Davis OT Rutgers

They are focused on getting that running game going and Davis will be a huge upgrade, not sexy but cheep and value.

#24 Seattle (from Denver) - Jahvid Best RB CAL

Forset is a nice surprise but a talent like Best falling here makes the Seahawks dangerous again.

#25 New England - Ricky Sapp DE Clemson

They have to address the D line and this is value, as always a trade would surprise no one.

#26 Green Bay - Bryan Bulaga OT Iowa

They will look at both sides of the line and deep help but a cold weather beast to save Aaron Rodgers butt.

#27 Cincinnati - Marty Gilyard WR CIN

No one can replace a beloved teammate like Chris Henry but Marty is a big play deep threat that brings all heart and work ethic. He would make Chris proud.

#28 Philadelphia - Bruce Carter LB UNC

Nothing flashy this year, look for an emphasis of the D side as their offense is clicking hard core.

#29 San Diego - Cameron Heyward DL OSU

Coach Turner must address the D or face disaster sooner rather then later.

#30 Minnesota - Aurther Jones SYR

The Williams boys aren’t getting any younger and might be only a season away from retiring.

#31 New Orleans - Brandon LaFell WR LSU

Sure Drew needs another big WR right? They need CB help but if Tracy Porter gets healthy they can take a shot here.

#32 Indianapolis - Dan Williams DT TEN

The Colts close out round one with help on D, what did you expect a WR? I'd like to see them draft Tebow and turn him into a TE that runs the Wild Cat, what do you think?
