Disrespect The Texas Longhorns at Your Own Risk

Chris KreagerDec 17, 2009

Ever since Texas squeaked by Nebraska in the Big 12 Championship game, questions of Texas' title game worthiness have been thrown around.

On here, Bryan Kelly- not the football coach- wrote an article titled "Please, BCS Voters, Don't Put These Texas Longhorns in the National Championship."

In it, he basically dismisses them just because their offense didn't fare well against in their two toughest games.

True, but that is a slap in the face to the Texas defense. After all, Nebraska's offense failed to take advantage of their defense's dominance. They had a first-and-goal, but STILL couldn't reach the end zone.

Kelly then says "unlike Nebraska, the Tide can score points."

IIRC, wasn't this the same Bama that couldn't even crack the end zone against Tennessee? They could only score 12 points- and would have lost if not for Terrance Cody blocking two field goals.

"They're a joke, a straw man. Sixteen points against Oklahoma, 13 against Nebraska—that's the "real Texas," against a real defense. Not the 42-point scoring machines you see facing the detritus of other Big 12 cupcakes. More like the three-interception ghosts-of-Longhorn-offenses-past that gasp their way to six points in the second half despite huge advantages in field position and time of possession."

The way he speaks, you wouldn't know that Texas had won a championship in this decade, something that Bama has not.

And saying that Texas lost by his count- I guess that saying about "defense wins championships" doesn't count for Texas. You know, the team that allowed barely 100 yards all night.

Unlike him, I'm not falling for all that gushing about TCU.

All I hear is "TCU destroys everyone they play."

Newsflash- TCU destroyed their opponents because they were total cupcakes. Look at their schedule- a pathetic Virginia team, Texas State, SMU, Colorado State, UNLV, San Diego State, Utah, Wyoming. Not exactly murderers row- very SEC-esque

So for all of you who dismiss Texas and pretty much assume that the SEC already has another national title locked up...

Remember the 2006 Rose Bowl.

All you heard was how USC was possibly the greatest team of all-time.

And then Vince Young had a performance for the ages.

If Colt McCoy has an epic performance in Pasadena, we'll see if Bryan will be eating crow.
