The Bruce Allen press conference
The Redskins held a press conference today, shortly after 2.30 PM, to introduce new Executive Vice President and General Manager Bruce Allen, the son of legendary former Redskins coach George Allen. Team owner Dan Snyder took the microphone first to send his condolences to the Cincinnati Bengals players and staff over the death of WR Chris Henry, who was killed in an auto accident during a domestic dispute.
Snyder introduced Bruce Allen, calling him a “proven winner.” Snyder says Allen’s teams have won 5 division championships in this past decade and referred to his family’s history with the Redskins as an “added bonus” because he understands the traditions peculiar to the team and area.

Allen quickly mentioned the “comfort of coming home” [demonstrated by calling out Bubba Tyer at the press conference] and boasts he “can recite most of the media guide.”
Allen met today with Head Coach Jim Zorn to talk about what happens the next few weeks, calling it a “unique opportunity to get started on the 2010 season.”
Allen: “Starting today, I feel the pain” of the Redskins’ 4-9 record.
Allen said he’s liked the Redskins talent from afar and jokingly takes credit for Brian Orakpo selection. “They have a nice core of talent. …I think if we can add to this team, we’ll accomplish our goals.”
Allen: “I’m interested in 52 weeks of good practice and 52 weeks of work habits.”
Snyder called Allen “seasoned” and appropriate for the GM title. As for Cerrato, Snyder said he’s “still a friend. I appreciate the work he did for us.” Then, as if to call down a divine blessing upon the change, Snyder mentioned that he’d spoken to former Head Coach Joe Gibbs this morning and that Gibbs endorsed the move.
