BIG TEN EXPANSION- Think About This Scenario

There has been allot of internet chatter about Big Ten Expansion. Of course it will be the university's presidents that will make the final decision but having said that lets look at one scenario that might work and would fundamentally change college football forever.

The teams that are most often mentioned for Big Ten Expansion are Pitt, Syracuse, Rutgers, and Missouri.  Each have their positives and each fit the Big Ten Academically. I do not think that Pitt gets into the Big Ten there is allot of animus between Pitt and Penn State over the fact that they prevented Penn State from entering the Big East in the 1980's so I do not think they get invited but lets look at another scenario.

The Big Ten invites, Syracuse, Rutgers and Missouri is enter the conference. You have now created a conference that can compete with the SEC that stretches from New York to Kansas City and gives you a recruiting pool that is very large.  Imagine the following conference divisions.

Big Ten North

Wisconsin

Iowa

Michigan State

Michigan

Northwestern

Illinois

Minnesota

Missouri

Big Ten South

Penn State

Ohio State

Rutgers

Indiana

Syracuse

Purdue

The beauty part of a set up like this is that you could get two Michigan/Ohio State Games each year and you keep all existing rivalries in place.  Your put PSU, Syracuse and Rutgers in the Same division and you have competitive balance across the nation.

Now I am a traditionalist and I wish we would go back to 10 teams going to the Rose Bowl with no BCS but the realities are that we need to do this.  Another good think about the change is that we now Dominate three of the four best TV Markets and we can have a title game.
