Tiger Woods: What's In The Eye Of The Tiger?
So Tiger Wood's has taken a break from golf...
I'm not one hundred percent sure how I feel about this, but I do know one thing—Tiger cares about his personal life and family. Is it really that odd that in this stressful time, he doesn't want to have to deal with the media and public scrutiny?
I don't know about anyone else but if I was in Tiger's position and my family life was potentially at stake, I wouldn't want to have to deal with anything other than that.
So while I admit I have been guiltily following every bit of this story as it has unfolded, I also am trying to see where Tiger is coming from. Since he has been so closed off to the media in the past it is difficult to get a read on the type of person he is.
One interesting fact that is in his favor is that another megastar athlete did something very similar and still went down as the greatest of his time.
Remember when MJ decided to have a swing at baseball? Remember how shady that whole situation was?
To this day people speculate on why Michael took a break from what he did best. He was another man who achieved everything he could have professionally yet remains incredibly difficult to understand as a person.
Perhaps Tiger is built out of the same mold...
Can you picture Tiger and Michael hanging out or at least getting along?
Tough to say since neither have revealed much about their character, other than the fact that both are extremely competitive and take great pride in what they do.
And maybe that's something Tiger can take solace in—the fact that he is not the first superstar athlete to be embroiled in controversy. Interestingly enough, when reflecting on the career of MJ, what comes to mind? The six championships? The MVP's? The moments that made you say "Wow, this guy's special...".
In any case it is not the fact that MJ took a break from basketball, unless this is remembered to show how great he was. He took a year off and come back without skipping a beat.
Could Tiger do the same thing?
At the end of the day it seems to me that Tiger cares about his personal life and family more than anything else right now.
Do you blame him? And when he does come back, and I would bet my life's savings that he does, do you really think anyone is going to stop him? The greatest golfer to arguably ever play, now has something to prove? Even if you aren't a fan of golf you should tune in just to see what happens.
When he does make his triumphant return I know I won't be thinking about this controversy, more likely I'll be in awe as I watch yet another chapter in Tiger's illustrious career. I won't remember talking to my friends about how this is the craziest thing to witness, the fall of someone once at the pinnacle of greatness.
I won't remember the scandal that made the headlines probably only several months earlier.
So the question then becomes...
Will you?
