Tiger Woods: The End Draws Near

Jose SalviatiDec 16, 2009

A wild tiger has one main predator: humans.

The human Tiger continues to lose a battle against the same enemy in terms of public opinion.

In the blink of an eye Tiger went from revered to repulsive.  In the time it took to fall out of his Escalade and fall asleep on his lawn, Woods went from respected to repugnant.

This is a modern day David and Goliath with Woods playing the role of unbeatable, untouchable Goliath writhing in pain after a blow to the head.  Society stands ready with the sword aimed at his neck.

Forgive the melodrama but with word coming out yesterday of a possible connection to HGH I believe the imagery fits.

Americans are a very forgiving bunch.  We not only forgave but we welcomed back the likes of Bill Clinton, Magic Johnson, Alex Rodriquez and on and on.  We aren't as open-minded about sexual dalliances as our European friends but we forgive.

In time, we would have forgiven Tiger.

If his other-wordly game came, at least in part, from a pill, however, then the landscape changes.  In what some may see as a huge hypocritical stance, we are more likely to forgive a cheater in marriage than we are a cheater in sports.

The wonder that was Tiger Woods came from how unique he was.  There was his ethnicity, his status as a child prodigy all combined with that amazing skill on the golf course.

Not mentioned as often but always there to those who even casually watched the game was Tiger's physique.

When I think about a stereotypical golfer I lean more towards frumpy and less towards fit.  I envision man-boobs and beer bellies not sculpted abs and bulging triceps.  More Adam Sandler and less Kimbo Slice. I am not a huge golf fan so my perception may be way off but I believe mine is the perception of most casual fans.

Tiger did away with that stereotype.  Because he had made a habit of changing the game of golf from every other angle I, along with everyone else, thought nothing of Tiger as a *gasp* in-shape golfer.

I mean, there was a better chance he had a revolving door of mistresses than of him taking HGH, right?

The sexual transgressions were a BB gun compared to even the accusation of taking HGH.  This changes everything.

His trysts with mistresses number one through number whatever has been confirmed.  Text messages have been read and there is little doubt more embarrassing revelations are yet to come.  Tiger taking HGH is as of today just a possibility.

No one ever proved Barry Bonds did it either, however.

Society has another stone to throw.

Will Tiger survive this?  Possibly.  If the revolving door of mistresses stops, if he works to repair his marriage and if the allegation of HGH usage is proven to be 100 percent false, then I'm sure it is in us as humans to forgive.

More likely, however, as much as it pains me to admit it, is that Tiger goes the way of a firecracker.

Firecrackers have a lot of sparkle at first.  They are a great show.  Then, after a big boom, they are gone.  Unrecognizable with only pieces strewn about.  There is no doubt the fuse on Tiger the firecracker has been lit.

All that's left to see is if this HGH revelation is the BOOM.
