Excuse Me, Jon Fitch—Part Deux: the Fight with GSP on Aug. 9

Dorothy WillisJun 19, 2008

On March 11, 2008 I wrote an article "Excuse me Jon Fitch . . . . " after reading an article in which Fitch drew the conclusion that Georges does not like being hit in the face after watching his first title fight loss to Matt Serra.

(Readers may wish to search my archives and read that article before finishing this one to see where I am coming from in this case, or not.)

My response to Fitch's revelation was:  "Duh!  Who does (like being hit in the face and knocked out)?"

Obviously, the fact that after the first hit (which, incidentally, many have stated was an illegal hit to the back of Georges' head), Georges kept moving unhesitatingly forward, attempting to continue to fight with Serra and eating many more strikes, must have escaped Fitch's studious observation; because he didn't just throw up his hands and run away screaming, "not my face, oh, no, not my face!"

Soon Fitch will bear witness to Georges' preferences first hand when he faces him up close and personal in the octagon on August 9.

I guess it is no secret who I will be betting on to win, and it is obviously not Jon Fitch.

No matter how hard he tries to overtake Georges, after viewing GSP's training films ( especially his vertical jumps of more than 44"), I am doubtful that there are many (any?) who can beat Georges and his phenomenal development of his innate athletic abilities.

What awesome skills could Jon Fitch be hiding; is he a cyborg who has been programmed to beat super athlete "Rush" by some as yet unknown powerful technique developed by alien lifeforms far superior to human life as we know it?

Unless Fitch has super powers that no one is aware of yet, I think his 'hit in the face' revelation is not based on reality and Georges will teach him a lesson.

August 9th could see me crying on my pizza if Jon Fitch pulls off a fast one and ends up with the UFC WW belt.  Stranger things have happened and unlike most sports fanatics, I am ruled by my heart and not my head.
