Robert Green: The Answer To Arsenal's Goalkeeping Woes?

Callum D'SouzaDec 15, 2009

After yet another goalkeeping blunder enabled the opposition to find the back of the net, it is obvious Arsenal need to find a top-quality goalkeeper, and what better time than the January transfer window.

Arsenal's first-choice keeper, Manuel Almunia, simply isn't good enough to be first-choice keeper for a team in desperate need to stay in the top four and find trophies. The Spaniard is error prone and lacks consistency. Almunia has performed well, even sensationally at times, but recent performances this season have made it evident that the 32-year old just isn't good enough.

Deputy keeper Lukasz Fabianski has shown glimpses of promise and potential, but the Polish shot stopper also struggles to keep errors out of his game, and the Polish international also struggles with adequate positioning.

At 24, Fabianski still has a big future ahead of him, and the former Legia Warsaw keeper is capable of becoming a world class keeper, but, at the moment, he lacks experience and quality.

Twenty-one year old Vito Mannone who showed strong promise in his short spell as first-choice keeper, is still too tender and young to be considered for the dominant role.

With January approaching, and a bit of money to spend, there is no reason why Wenger can't consider a move for West Ham's Robert Green.

The 29-year old is a quality, experienced keeper who would be a great option as Arsenal's first-choice keeper, and could solve Arsenal's current keeping woes.

Green has played over 100 games for the Hammers, and received the joy of representing England. Last season, the Englishman was a consistent figure in the West Ham goal, playing all of their 38 Premier League games.

Green may be a little pricey for Wenger's likeing but Green is a quality keeper, and in my opinon, Arsenal need him.
