The Big Slam: ECW Extreme Hangover

Ron JohnsonJun 19, 2008

With a few days until the Draft, and over a week until Night of Champions, ECW goes live from San Jose with the entrance of Hornswoggle. A few days late, but the action was still just as good.

First Bout: Hornswoggle defeats Armando Estrada

As the bell rings, Hornswoggle grabs the cigar out of Estrada's derby, snaps it and throws it back towards Estrada. Estrada then chases him outside only to get slipped up by a huge bag of marbles laid out by the Lil' Irishman. Back in the ring, Hornswoggle smacks Estrada with a toy shillelagh followed by a few squirts from a mini Super Soaker.

Again, Estrada chases him out of the ring and tries to pull him from under the ring. As Hornswoggle sneaks back into the ring from the other side and distracts the ref, The Man with the Island Tan gets soaked by a bigger Super Soaker...courtesy of Horny's dad, Finlay. After giving a Lou Thesz press on the outside, Hornswoggle nails the Tadpole Splash for his second straight victory over the former GM.

Second Bout: Evan Bourne defeats Matt Striker

As the bell rings, Bourne has the early advantage until Striker hits a spinning neckbreaker to gain control of the match. Bourne fights out of a headlock and nails a standing high knee followed by a hurracanrana. Striker counters with a boot following Bourne's flip splash.

But Bourne counters again with a kick flip in the corner followed by The Bourne Identity (450 Splash) for the win. But his celebration is cut short as Mike Knox comes out and nails a big boot followed by the Knox Landing.

Third Bout: Kofi Kingston defeats Mike Knox via DQ

As the bell rings, Knox is pummeling Kingston, but Kofi recovers with a series of kicks. Knox counters with a turnbuckle faceplant and follows it up with a stretch. Kofi wiggles out and nails some kicks followed by a cross body.

After the Boom 3 Leg Drop, Shelton Benjamin comes out and attacks Kingston forcing the DQ. The two men slug it out in the ring until a T-Bone Suplex gives Benjamin control. But a botched Dragon Whip nails an approaching Knox, allowing Kingston to escape from the ring.

In the back, Teddy Long is making the match for the WWE Tag Team Championships official as Finlay and Hornswoggle sign the contract to meet The Dirt Sheet at Night of Champions. But The Miz comes in and tells Teddy that this has got to be a joke. In return, he gets clocked by a real shillelagh from Finlay, who responds "Yes. We're serious."

Main Event: CM Punk defeats John Morrison

Before the bell, the two men are shooting verbal assaults at each other. After the bell, Punk is more intense than before, and after a few shoves back and forth, he uses a few kicks to gain control. As Morrison tries to mount a comeback, he's nailed with a spinning back elbow and a vicious takedown.

As Punk tries a move from the outside, Morrison uses a leg sweep and baseball slides him outside to gain complete control of the match. Morrison stays on the offensive with a modified side submission. Punk breaks free with a few kicks, but Morrison continues the assault on his ribs and locks in the same submission again.

Following a stomp to the ribs, Morrision locks in another submission, but Punk fights out only to get dropped again after another shot to the ribs. Punk fights out of the leg scissors with some punches and follows it up with the high knee and a quick power slam. After a fireman's carry and a knee to the face, Morrison drops Punk with a back suplex.

But Punk recovers and nails the GTS for the win. After the match, The Miz comes out and makes it clear that he and Morrison will still be tag champs after they beat Finlay and Hornswoggle at Night of Champions.

Bonus Event: N.O.C. Confrontation Between Big Show & Kane

Back from break, ECW GM Teddy Long introduces the two men who will battle for the ECW Championship @ Night of Champions: Big Show & Kane

The Big Show makes it clear that Kane has something he wants, and after Night of Champions, he will be ECW Champion again. Kane tells him that he may be the World's Largest Athlete and one of the most dominant athletes in the industry, but he will not be ECW Champion at Night of Champions.

As the two men inch closer to physicality, they are interrupted by the World's Strongest Man Mark Henry. Henry makes it clear that regardless of who is ECW Champion, that man will be his next target. The two giants responded by chokeslamming Henry before turning their attention back to each other as ECW goes off the air.
