Looking Back: Tennis (Men's Tour) 2009
2009- Heartbreaking defeats, triumphant shouts, tears, hugs... this year, the men's tour was only a little short of a dramatic Hollywood movie. Here's my list of what I remember (good, not so good and bad) when I look back: (in chronological order)
1) Aussie Open
Rafa lifts the trophy once...ignores the TA guys, and walks over to his bawling opponent (Roger Federer) and consoles him. This guy has class...how many people do you know would go over to their opponent to console them?? Not that many... What he did was unique to the point of non-existence. You rock, Rafa...In 2010, you'll be back, trust me....
2) Novak Djokovic vs Roger Federer, Miami.
He broke a racket. No, I am not talking about Djoker (how many rackets did he break this year?). I am talking about the King of Cool. Roger, what happened? I remember jumping off my seat when this happened. You are wasting man power, dude... watch it!!
3) Rafael Nadal vs Robin Soderling, Rome
Robin Soderling lost 6-1, 6-0. I don't remember cause of the score...no. I remember it because of the controversial liner in the second set (sixth game, if I'm not wrong). Rafa hits it on the line, Robin Soderling rubs out the mark and points his racket somewhere else. You were gonna lose anyway, dude so what was the use??
4)Rafael Nadal vs Robin Soderling, Paris, RG 2009
Sigh...must I elaborate?
5)Andy Murray vs Stanislas Wawrinka, Wimbledon 2009
You could see it on his face. Andy Murray's when we won this one. You could see the relief, and the fact that he hadn't let down 51 million people by losing in the fourth round. This was a classic match, a five-set thriller. And when he won, he sank to his knees as everyone on Centre Court erupted with joy...Andy Murray was through...Dude, 2010 is your year!! J
7)Andy Roddick, Semifinal, Wimbledon 2009
When he was going up to the locker room, the feeling overwhelmed him and he dropped to his knees on the stairs on the way up. At that moment, I was suddenly not sorry that Andy Murray had lost…A-Rod deserved to be the finalist (and win it, too actually), he was, sorry is a great champion.
8) Roger Federer and his ‘15’ jacket
I have nothing against this guy but that jacket was the limit… literally rubbing it in Roddick’s face. I wonder, did you have a ‘16’ jacket at the US Open final, Roger? Hmmm, interesting thought…wonder what happened to it?
9)Nikolay Davydenko beats Roger Federer at the ATP WTF Semis
Wow…some match this. Thirteenth time lucky for Davy, you could see he was really glad. Maybe a GS in 2010, eh?
And finally…
10)Spain wins the Davis Cup
No, I don’t exactly remember the trophy presentation and all… just the fact that Rafa happened to be Spain’s main cheerleader. Awfully fidgety, aren’t you…but amazing to watch!!
