Premier League: You're Having a Laugh!

harry smithJun 19, 2008

Money, Money, Money! The game is dominated by the stuff today. The latest revolution in world football seems to be foreign investors... But why are they really here???

The beautiful game is, in many opinions, being ruined by these guys. They turn up with their HUGE wallets and think they own the place. It is becoming sad reality, that they probably do.

Roman Abramovich, the Glazers and all other world tycoons have invaded the game of "soccer" in the last few years. Do they know anything about the game?

One of the most "benefited" teams by this Russian revolution is Chelsea. Go to Chelsea away games and you are likely to here songs such as " Where were you when you were S**t?"

A recent poll of Chelsea and Arsenal fans revealed that Chelsea fans would rather play like Arsenal and not get the results and Arsenal fans would rather the beloved Red and White army play like Chelsea but get their results. I find this statistic rather disturbing... from both points of view.

No offence to the team from the King's Road but their football is very similar to Watford. I can go to Vicarage Road and get the same enjoyment as I would at Stamford Bridge... For half the money, which brings me on to the next topic.

Are the investors really getting their expected "feedback" from the English game. The investors have come to English clubs, all of the big four, and they don't want to win the ENGLISH premier league. The UEFA Champions League is a much bigger draw.

This competition does not prove you are the best team in Europe. In 2004 the final was contested between AS Monaco and FC Porto. One team had a sensational one off season and the other's success was largely down to the skill of their coach.

Meanwhile, over in merry old England, Arsenal were winning the Premiership UNBEATEN. Now who would have a match between Arsenal and Porto?

What I am trying to say is, if the investors don't have a good reason to be here then why isn't there a FIFA ruling against it. The guys at FIFA and UEFA, especially Michel Platini, know the investors are doing no good for the game.

These guys practically own football, so do something about it!

The game depends on it happening.

I know this has only scratched the surface and I am not the first or only person to have this opinion but I wanted to put my point across

Thanks for reading
