Analysis: Sir Alex Ferguson - "Take Added Time Out of Referee's Hands"

Steven SmithDec 12, 2009

In the post-game interview after the Aston Villa game, Sir Alex Ferguson, manager of Manchester United, told ESPN:

“To be honest with you it just gets to the point when adding time on should be taken out of the referees’ hands. That’s all I’m going to say on it.”

He continued:

“There were two stoppages of two minutes and 20 seconds and five substitutions on top of that and they only played three minutes.”

To say the least, and interesting interview from Alex Ferguson.

Maybe he would rather that the managers decided on extra time? Maybe they'd have a little collaboration and a rock-paper-scissors game?

Just imagine the commentators.

"Chelsea against Manchester United, after a tense 90 minutes it's 1-1. How much stopping time is there going to be?"

"The tension is un-bearable. Here it goes...Ancelotti throws up a rock, Ferguson has paper! Ferguson wins!"

"We see him talking to the fourth referee, and the fourth referee is going to hold up a number..Sir Alex Ferguson has requested 24 minutes of stoppage time, with an immediate end to the game once United score!"

"You can see Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs staring at their manager with menace."

Didn't hear complaints about six minutes of stoppage time in the Manchester derby, Sir Alex.

Two extra minutes on top of the four added and a winning goal seemed to satisfy Sir Alex very well, hm?

Personally, I think it's time for the FA to take some action on Ferguson. Sure, he's a world famous, pronounced manager with a wealthy array of rewards, a world-wide respected man, but he's still a manager.

First the referees aren't fit enough, now the time added is wrong.

Next, Ballack's shoes were tied in a weird manner, plus the grass had a weird smell.

Comment what you think.
