Rookies To Watch: PGA Tour 2010 No. 1 Troy Merritt

Rick GillispieDec 12, 2009

Troy Merritt was the medalist at the 2009 Q school to earn his 2010 PGA Tour card.

Merritt graduated from Boise State University in 2008. He would play in 17 events on the Nationwide tour in 2009. Merritt would finish 39th on the 2009 Nationwide money list.

Merritt won the 2009 Mexico Open on the Nationwide Tour. Even with that win the year was a struggle for the two-time WAC ALL-American. Merritt made the cut in 12 of the 17 Tournaments he entered. But, he would never find the success like he did at the Mexico Open.

Merritt would get only one more top 25 finish with that being at the Price Cutter Charity Classic. Merritt finished 23rd in that event.

Merritt collected $151,821 dollars for his work on the 2009 Nationwide Tour, but it was his dominate performance at Q School which has a lot of pros praising this young man.

KEYS TO SUCCESS:

1. Don't let the pressure get to him.

2. Play as many events that he can play.

3. Improve Driving Accuracy.

4. Give himself more chances for birdies.

GOALS FOR MERRITT:

1. Keep Card. ( Main focus for every rookie should be first to secure a card for next year.)

2. Improve on top 20 finishes.

3. WIN !

Merritt has the game to be a force in this game for a long time. With a strong start Merritt could be a strong canidadite for Rookie Of The Year.
