Juventus: The Perfect Medicine for FC Bayern

Samrin HasibDec 11, 2009

At half-time, the scoreline in Turin said 1-1. Bayern were most probably going out of the Champions League. The team however showed their true colours. They continued dominating as they did in the first half and deservedly won 4-1.

There was a bit of irony in the game though. A Martin Demichelis error led to Juve's goal. Last year, at the Allianz Arena, against Lyon, Demichelis scored an own goal.

Hans- Jorg Butt, a former Bayer player rescued Bayern this time and last year, Ze Roberto, another former Leverkusen player rescued Bayern.

The main difference is that Bayern drew with Lyon at home last year and this year despite a similar incident in Italy, they won 4-1.

David Trezeguet missed an absolute sitter when Bayern were 2-1 up. As we all know, sometimes, every team needs a bit of luck, and Lady Luck finally shone on FCB.

What I liked most about the game was that Schweinsteiger played like a man possessed. Van Bommel's passing was exquisite and so was his cross that almost led to Olic opening the scoring.

Mario Gomez won the ball beautifully for Tymoschuk's goal and scored an absolutely deserved "fox in the box" goal.

Ivica Olic played the way he does all the time: he displayed plenty of energy and in the Bayern website, was compared to the rabbit in the Energizer battery commercial.

Anatoliy Tymoschuk has recently been talking about leaving Bayern. I am sure his super strike will make him change his mind!

Hans Jorg Butt deserves a special mention for a wonderful penalty, his third goal against Juve in his career, and his second against Gianluigi Buffon.

This is what was expected from Bayern at the beginning of the season. The real Bayern finally showed up and they won without Ribery and virtually without Robben too.

This is also the second time that an Italian side has gone down 4-1 to Bayern in the space of six months. AC Milan lost by the same scoreline in the AUDI Cup in preseason.

Bayern are next away to Bochum. I wonder which Bayern will show up against Bochum. Bochum and Bayern played out a 3-3 draw last year, one for which the FCB side was heavily criticized.

Now, along with everybody else, I am looking forward to the Champions League round of 16 draw on Dec. 18.

As long as Bayern don't draw Barcelona or Real, the big question will be:

Which Bayern will show up in February?
