Time for You Urban Meyer Haters To Come Up with a New Reason To Hope
You know who you are. You're the "Urban will be at Notre Dame next year" crowd. The people who were hoping and praying that Notre Dame was still Urban Meyer's "dream job" because as long as he's at Florida, your team has no chance. Well now that your little pipe dream has burst, what's your new excuse?
You see the handwriting on the wall. You've seen Meyer win two national titles and come within a very good Alabama performance of playing for another. You've seen his recruiting classes stay consistently at or near the top of the rankings. And now you've seen Tebow lose.
And while you thoroughly enjoyed watching Tebow lose, it has given you the sinking feeling that means that Tebow can't win all by himself. The Gators really can't win just by rolling No. 15 out there and mailing it in. So that means that all those games and championships weren't just Tebow.
So how long will it be before Meyer has UF back in the BCS hunt? Well the answer to that may have already taken place. In his first year the Gators were a pedestrian 8-4 team in the regular season.
The second year, not much was expected of them. They had Chris Leak at QB, who was not exactly equipped to run the spread offense. So Meyer had to adjust his offense to fit into Leak's strengths. The result? A national title. That's what separates the elite coaches from the rest.
So how long will it take this time? Who knows? One thing we do know though is Urban Meyer has been hauling in top five recruiting classes for five straight years. This year doesn't appear to be any different. Will there be a dropoff in talent next year? Yes. Will it be enough for your team to come in and beat us? Probably not.
Then what will your story be? You won't have Tebow to blame anymore. And Notre Dame can't rescue you either. The shoe is now on the other foot. This year all the pressure was on us to win. Next year, it's on you. If you lose next year, then what? Maybe he'll leave for the NFL?
If you're not a Gator, you don't understand. And nobody can explain it to you. But think about this. Billy Donovan turned down Kentucky. TWICE! UK fans to this day are still wondering how can that be? They were SURE he would come running when they called. After all, it's KENTUCKY! And Florida doesn't even care about basketball.
So if Donovan can't even pull the trigger to coach Kentucky, or better yet the Magic, imagine what Meyer's life must be like. That man has probably not paid for a meal, golf outing, fishing trip, or drink in five years. One thing we know for sure, his "dream job" at the all time most prestigious college football program in history wasn't enough to lure him away. So what's your story now?
