Long Standing Record at Penn State Broken

Kevin HatfieldDec 11, 2009

Most people at Penn State know the restaurant Green Bowl. What would you say a lot of food is? Two bowls? Three Bowls? If you're lucky maybe four?

At approximately 5:45 P.M. on December 11, 2009, Joe Tappe—sophomore at Penn State—was ready to make Green Bowl history.

His goal: beat the record of eight bowls eaten.

The result: 10 bowls. Yes, that's right folks, ten.

Tappe never showed fear when tackling this enormous task, and he was even able to make a good impression on a couple of the waitresses.

Tappe only had a few, slight falters this evening. At bowl three, he put way too much peanut better sauce on the noodles, and he had this to say.

"I thought it tasted like ass. All of the peanut butter gooped on my tongue, and I could hear my kidneys screaming at me to stop."

Nevertheless, Tappe persevered and was barely able to get bowl ten down. Again, he went a little too heavy on the sauce—this time it was hoison.

This is clearly one of the biggest events in Penn State sporting history. Tappe could have a great career in professional eating, and when asked if he would be entering the annual Nathan"s Hot Dog Eating Contest, he had this to say.

"For sure, they better watch out for "Ten Bowl" Tappe."

Tappe was not the only eater that was out tonight at Penn State. Freshman Will Morrill also was ready to make history. He became the first eater under 185 lbs. to eat eight bowls. He is now considered the undisputed welter-weight eating champion at Penn State.

Morrill had this to say.

"Ten Bowl is a real tough guy. I went out there with all I got and pushed him to his physical limits."

When asked if there could be a potential rematch in the future, Morrill seemed strangely confident.

"Hells yes. I expect to get at least 12 next time, so Ten Bowl better be on his "A" game."

This was clearly a big night for Penn State eating athletics. We can expect to hear a lot more from both of these budding stars soon.

Next up: never ending pasta bowl at Olive Garden.
