Smoke Signals: Marty pimpslaps Snyderrato
Remember those scouting trips that top Redskins pinheads Dan Snyder and Vinny Cerrato have been on to โscoutโ Texas QB Colt McCoy and Notre Dame QB Jimmy Clausen? Well, former Redskins head coach Marty Schottenheimer discussed them on his radio program yesterday. Big Stein has the relevant details:
"โWhen you send Dan [Snyder] out along with Vinny Cerrato, Vinnyโs going to tell him whatever he thinks Dan wants to hear,โ Schottenheimer said Thursday on โThe Red Zone,โ the SIRIUS NFL show he hosts along with Solomon Wilcots. โDan, God love him, I donโt know that the analysis and evaluation of quarterbacks is necessarily down his alley.โ

โIโve said for a long time, in my opinion the problem down thereโobviously it starts at the top with Danโbut [the problem] is Cerrato,โ Schottenheimer said Thursday. โI donโt particularly respect the guy. He and I had our issues when we were there. Basically what he said was, โMarty, Dan may be listening to you during the preseason,โ he says. โBut wait until I get up in the ownerโs box during the regular season, and then weโll see who Dan listens to.โโNow howโs that? Howโs that? And of course, he was gone within the week but re-hired shortly after I departed. So now, Dan, heโs made his choice [some] time ago, but Iโm not a big fan of Cerrato and his work.โ
"
Thatโs fantastic. A shot at The Liโl General and who among us canโt see that smarmy Cerrato smugly telling Schottenheimer that the Idiot Upstairs listens to him โ a fellow idiot โ far more closely than he listens to an experienced football man like Schottenheimer? Classic stuff from Marty.
Vinny Cerrato, on his awful radio program, explained the decision to cut PK Shaun Suisham. The reasons are what youโd expect, but the question I have is this: Wasnโt this Jim Zornโs decision? Is it naive of me to think that the head coach makes those calls during the season?
If youโre really intent on punishing yourself, read this about Cerratoโs radio interview with Jimmy Clausen.
