What Will WWE Be Like in 10 More Years?

The Doctor Chris MuellerDec 11, 2009

With the year winding down, I thought I would focus on the future.

It's been almost 10 years since we entered the new millennium, and the wrestling business has changed a lot.

The WWE was falling behind WCW at the close of 1999, but by the end of 2000 had gained back control of the wrestling world and went on to buy out their biggest competitor.

I find myself wondering, given another 10 years, what will the WWE be like?

One thing is for sure, the roster will look different.  There are five guys in particular I have no doubt will be retired by 2020.

Shawn Michaels, HHH, Undertaker, Batista, and Big Show will all be either too old or beaten up to continue drawing the way they do now.  Even guys like Edge and Chris Jericho could be gone by then.

Undertaker, Batista, and HBK have been talked about, as the subject of retirement comes up a lot.

Batista started his wrestling career late in life compared to most, so he will definitely be gone.  Undertaker is getting older and having to have a yearly surgery just to keep a light schedule.

Shawn's back can only take so much abuse, and HHH will likely be on to more corporate things by that point.  Big Show is just plain too big to continue for another 10 years at the pace he is going.

Guys like Orton, Cena, and Hardy could be on the roster still by that point, but I doubt it when it comes to Cena.  I see him leaving within five years to focus on movies, like The Rock did.

Other stars like Ziggler, Kidd, Morrison, and Kofi could be the top guys in the company at that point.  Morrison is already being groomed to be a top guy, as is Kingston.  Ziggler has some fire in him, as well as Tyson Kidd.

By 2020, we will most likely have more new superstars than old ones.  The roster seems a little on the stale side right now.

Guys like Taker, who have been around nearly two decades, are starting to wind down their careers, and guys like Ziggler are continuing to improve each year in order to take over the spots vacated by the current guys.

TNA may end up being a huge company by 2020, or they may not be around at all. Dixie Carter is making some bold choices that could make or break the company.

Ring of Honor could be where TNA is now by 2020, or even bigger. ROH is now known for breeding tomorrow's top guys, with the likes of CM Punk, Samos Joe, Bryan Danielson, and Nigel Mcguiness having started out there.

And let's not forget Scotty "Colt Cabana" Goldman is from ROH too.  What's crackin', Scotty?

We could even see a new company be a major competitor by then.  Right now, people are hungry for variety in the wrestling world, and the right kind of business plan could capitalize on that.

WWE will no doubt be on top of the wrestling world for a long time to come, but 10 years is a long time.

It took less than that for WCW to become bigger than WWE as well as being bought by WWE.  I believe they became more of a ratings magnet around 1998, and by 2001 was under new ownership.

I see women's wrestling either being eliminated by the WWE or improved, because the current state of women's wrestling is just sad in the WWE. TNA has it all over the WWE when it comes to women's wrestling, and they are only getting better.

Hamada and Alyssa Flash have been great additions.  Maybe one day the WWE will realize that women don't have to look like supermodels to be performers.

I don't know for sure who will be the face of the WWE in ten years, but I do know this.  It wont be HBK, HHH, Undertaker, or Big Show.  It will either be someone we haven't seen yet or someone in the mid-card range who will take over.

Any thoughts?
