Could the Heisman Go to Suh?
Many regard the big defensive tackle from Nebraska, Ndamukong Suh, not only the best defensive player in the NFL Draft this year, but the best overall player. The big 6′4″ 300 pound defensive tackle has wrapped up the NCAA Lombardi Award. Perhaps above all, his performance in the Big 12 finale against Texas may have been the late push he needed to be a serious Heisman contender.
Bruce Feldman from ESPN was a believer in Suh from the start.
"Still, if you watched the Big 12 title game, you saw the single most dominant performance of the entire season. Suh ate up what had been a prolific Texas offense. Despite lots of double-teams, Suh was unblockable and unstoppable for 60 minutes. He had 7.5 tackles for loss, a dozen tackles and four sacks.
"
Really incredible stuff when you think of Suh pulling double teams.
It is still difficult for me to imagine the Heisman deciders going defensive tackle, no matter if deserving or not. QB Jimmy Clausen, QB Colt McCoy, and RB Mark Ingram have put up some gaudy numbers. Star Telegram writes on the top Heisman candidates with Mark Ingram leading the pack.
As for the first overall pick in the draft, most depends on who nails that spot. If it is Tampa Bay, the Herald Tribune is clear that Suh should be the Bucs pick.
