Peace, Love and Patriots Football

ILANA SCHULMANDec 9, 2009
REALLY?!?!? 7-5 and we are still first in our division...being trailed by the Dolphins (yes, Miami is 6-6). The good news for the Patriots is that if the season ended today we'd be hosting a playoff game. BAD NEWS BEING... In the divisional round, we'd have to go on the road, where we are currently 1-5 (ouch/sting/burn/whatever).

The biggest rivalry in the AFC?
My dollar is on the Patriots/ Colts soap opera
The never ending Brady -vs- Manning saga
Suits and ties -vs- Cut off tshirts and baseball caps
*Little did I know that I had a Colts fan sitting inches away from me everyday at work! *

Guilty as charged, we all decided to hit the road and take a trip to Indianapolis, specifically to Lucas Oil ~ the stadium is HUGE! Who wouldn't want to experience this rivalry in person? Especially with 2 Colts fans and a Bears fan (I would not let Lindsay wear her Bears shirt to this AFC game in Indy... she took one for the team and sported Pats!). My stomach was in my throat the whole game! The only "semi moments" of relief were in the 4th quarter, when Manning and the Colts were trailing by 17 (in your face!).

Thoughts going thru my head at the moment:
*this might actually happen
*we might beat the Colts (karma for all the playoff tears)
*I wonder if my new Wes Welker necklace is lucky?
*I am actually here, in Indy, to see it
Talk about false advertising!!!!

We lost by ONE point (a final score of: 35-34)! Needing a first down to seal this sweet deal, Belichick decided to go for it (or I like to call gamble away my dignity) on fourth-and-2 from our own 28 with 2:08 to go. The Patriots called their second timeout of the drive...followed by a short pass from Brady to Faulk...we all know what happened from there. This was pretty much the decision heard around the world!!! Sports Center would not let it die for days! I was semi praying for another Kane taxi cab incident, just to change the subject!
(Why didnt Tiger's mistresses come out that week!!!!)

After some serious soul searching, I am *ok* with what happened. These are the kind of decisions that work in the overall picture. This coaching style has taken us to the playoffs numerous times (and maybe a super bowl, or two, or three...). These decisions show Belichicks confidence in his team (another example of actions speak louder than words, ha! I throw that one in whenever feasible).
The walk out of Lucas Stadium was a humbling one, you would have thought the Colts had clinched their AFC spot in Super Bowl XLI again...The streets were insane! Another example of the intensity shown by this rivalry :) BUT in the long run, we met alot of awesome people and I got to see my boys play ball ~ Isnt that what its all about?
Now I have my fingers crossed for the next 4 weeks, I think this could be possible (look at my optimism today!). No matter what we have amazing talent this season, and it shows when we have our left hand (O) working properly with our right hand (D).

Just remember Colts... No one is perfect, that's why pencils have erasers
Super Bowl XLIII was one of the biggest upsets in Super Bowl history
We had the perfect season and the perfect team (only to be left with empty hands) as Manning, New York’s unlikely Mr. Cool, hit Plaxico Burress on a 13-yard fade with 35 seconds left.
Giants - 4th consecutive postseason away win
Patriots - 1st time (in over a YEAR) we tasted defeat...and it was bitter.
Happy 50th Anniversary NFL!
