Tide, Longhorns, Bearcats, H. Frogs Or Broncos?
The Division I Football Brackets are out and sixteen teams qualified; no that was the Division II playoffs. The Division II playoffs are down to
Northwest Missouri and
Grand Valley State Bearcats; at least one Bearcat team will play for the National Championship.
This year we have five undefeated teams and all with impressive records. Boise State's Kellen Moore quarterbacks stats are very impressive. 167.5 passing rating, 3,325 yard and 39 TD's. In two years he has thrown for 6,811 yards and 64 TD's but will not be able to take Boise State to the National Championship game. The truth is that neither Cincinnati or TCU, the other unbeaten teams, will have that opportunity.
TCU out scored their opponents 488 to 149 with three quality wins against Clemson, Brigham Young and Utah. TCU is number one in total offense,; 581 yards per game of the unbeaten. Boise State has scored more points than any other team; 574 points and TCU is fourth and Cincinnati 6th. Alabama is a distant 26th. In passing efficiency Boise, TCU and Cincinnati are the top three. Alabama's quarterback has been sacked 13 times for a loss of 79 yards compared to Boise's 5. When it come to total defense, TCU, Alabama and Texas are one, two, and three. When it comes to interceptions Boise is third behind Texas and Ohio State.
When one looks at all the stats these five unbeaten deserve a chance to play for the National Championship. Unfortunately our current system doesn't allow it and for Boise State and other teams from non-BCS conferences it will never get that opportunity as long as a playoff system is not in place.
When will Division I College Football wake up and see that 78% of the college football fans want a playoff. From he time we begin organized sports the best teams go to the playoffs to see who is the best. We want a true number one. But again this year we could end up with three unbeaten teams and certainly controversy.
