Kimbo Slice Pinnacle in UFC Will Be To Become "GateKeeper"
With new-comer Kimbo Slice fresh off his victory over Houston Alexander, if he plays his cards right, an interesting prospect will be in his favour to legitimatise his stature in the UFC and in the world of MMA.
I'm talking about the UFC's Heavyweight "Gate-keeper". There are a few "gate-keepers" already amongst the heavyweight division, such as Heath Herring and Mirko Cro-Cop. These are the fighters within the division that will probably never amount to get a title shot, but yet are good enough to weed out prospects who are ultimately not "equipped" to become a dominant champion.
Kimbo falls perfectly into this catagory because as we all know that unless the competition within the heavyweight division diminishes sharpley, Kimbo Slice will never be fighting for the UFC Heavyweight Championship. At the age of 34 he isn't getting any younger and has no real credentials apart from backyard brawling.
Obviously I would say Mirko Cro-cop and Heath Herring are much better and experienced fighters, but thats the whole point of a champion in the making. His competition should get gradually harder the more wins one stacks up. (In other words Kimbo is in the grey area of the business.)
It has been said that Heath Herring is the "Primary Gate-Keeper" basically because he can fight and take a good battering. Kimbo would be more than capable of playing this role. It would benefit the UFC in the long run, due to the fan base Kimbo brings, and good for overall ratings, as he would be fighting on a regular basis.
In conclusion, I see this being the best case scenario for both Kimbo and the UFC, it's a win-win situation without running too many risks of big hyped fights becoming a total fiasco denting Kimbo's or more importantly UFC's reputation.
Would you think Kimbo suit a "Gate-Keeper" amongst the UFC Heavyweight Division?
Have your say!
