Forget Interim Championship For The Time Being
Through these passed two weeks it has emerged that UFC Heavyweight Champion, Brock Lesnar, is no nearer to making a swift recovery. It has been reported that Lesnar still remains "seriously ill" two weeks after the champion had undergone surgery in what 'appears' to be a success.
Now rumours are surfacing that Lesnar will be either stripped of the title, or that an interim belt will be made in Lesnar's absence. Some believe that the interim title match will take place at UFC 110 between Nogueria and Valasquez. Others are under the impression that the winner of the bout will then go on to face, number one contender: Shane Carwin some time in the foreseeable future.
Unfortunatly for fans betting on this rumour to come to fruition I see that no action will be taken so soon after the unification of the heavyweight title.
Several sources have claimed that Lesnar will have to be out of action for no less than one year, before discussions of a possible interim title is to be made.
Dana White is yet to make a final decision on the Interim title situation. I feel he's avoiding making a final decision too hastely for the sake of the heavyweight division. If Dana was make the interim title and Lesnar was to return in 6 months, he will be back in the exact same situation the Heavyweight division has just been rid of. Interim belts confuse people, and it's probably not a great feeling to be acting as 'champion' while the real one re-cooperates at home from the comfort of his own living room.
My take on this situation that if Lesnar has no known return date, after a year of absence, Dana will strip Lesnar of the title (just like they did with Mir) and no doubt have a square off with two heavyweights which are most deserving or a mini tournament if there are more in the title picture.
Whats your take on the situation?
