Week 14: 2009 NFL Team Power Rankings | Fantasy Football Team Rankings

Sean E. DouglasDec 8, 2009

Some how we still have two undefeated football teams left in the NFL. The Saints and Colts are having great years and fantasy football owners have to be a little concerned they may start resting players.

For now it looks like the Saints are committed to going undefeated as their head coach told the media they were going to make a run for a perfect record. Hopefully, that means the Saints starters will play their normal time.

Right now the team I would be the most concerned about is the Colts because there have veterans that could use the rest. Going undefeated would be nice for any team but the Colts only care about a championship. I wouldn't expect their main starters like Peyton Manning or Reggie Wayne to sit for a couple of weeks, however.

Below we have a short right up on the top ten teams on our power rankings for this season. These teams are important to know as they are playing well and should continue to help fantasy teams.

Furthermore, pay attention to the worst teams on the list as they are the teams you want to have your players going against for the fantasy football playoffs.

1. Saints (12-0)

Maybe it is truly destiny for this team to go undefeated this year as they have the ability of coming from behind and winning games. I thought this team was going to lose for sure against the Redskins but sure enough they came back.

With Robert Meachem progressing into a viable weapon weekly, this offense just continues to get better.

2. Colts (12-0)

The Colts won a big game against the Titans and did it in convincing fashion. This team would probably be the number one team in our NFL power rankings, but I still give the edge to the Saints for their convincing win against the Patriots.

This week the Colts will be tested again by the Broncos in what should be a good game until the end.

3. Vikings (10-2)

With the Cardinals putting the beat down on the Vikings it is clear to see the type of team Minnesota struggles against. That team is one with a good passing offense and a defense that can pressure Brett Favre and slow down Adrian Peterson.

Basically, it takes a Super Bowl caliber team to beat them and that is why both teams from last years Super Bowl are the only teams hat have beaten them. As it stands right now, the Vikings are still undefeated at home and will be tested their this week against the Bengals.

Expect a good game as both of these teams are playing solid football.

4. Chargers ( 9-3)

This week could be a trap game for the Chargers as they head down to Dallas and play the Cowboys. Dallas is going to be hungry for a win as they will play the Saints in New Orleans the very next week.

Unfortunately, for the Cowboys, the Chargers are playing so great football right now, and I'm not sure they can pull off a victory.

5. Bengals (9-3)

The Bengals have won their last two games, but they have come against the Browns and Lions. In the next two weeks, this team will be tested with greater competition as they play the Vikings and then the Chargers on the road.

With Cedric Benson back the Bengals should run the football heavily with him and probably Larry Johnson spelling as well. If the Bengals can play their style of football in this game than they have a great opportunity to win.

6. Cardinals (8-4)

Last week the Cardinals showed the world why they still have a great chance to get back to the Super Bowl this year. This team just seems to have a great ability to rise up in big games and beat very good teams.

This week the Cardinals take on the 49ers in San Francisco and if they win that game, they will be close to winning the NFC West.

7. Patriots (7-5)

It's easy to see that the Patriots have their problems as a team in all their losing this past month. The Patriots have now lost three of their last four games, but I'm still not counting this team out. Look for Tom Brady to lead this team to an easy victory next week against the Panthers in New England.

8. Cowboys (8-4)

The Cowboys lost a huge game last week against the Giants, but I still hold out hope that they will have a decent December. In the next two weeks, we should know if the Cowboys have what it takes to win their division and make it to the post season.

This week they play the Chargers, and I expect this game to be close as the Cowboys should use this game as a rallying cry.

9. Broncos (8-4)

After the first six games of the year, many believed the Broncos were a team of destiny as they started out with six straight wins. After that great start, they dropped four in a row, only to come back in the past two week's and win both.

This weekend marks a huge game for the Broncos because if they lose to the Colts and the Chargers beat the Cowboys than they are two games back of the Chargers. Expect a hard hitting game from Denver as I'm sure they won't go down easy on the road.

10. Packers (8-4)

Since the Packers lost to the Buccaneers, they have now won four games in a row. Their latest win saw them beat the Ravens in impressive fashion on Monday Night Football. I'm not sure if the Packers are as good as they've played of late but their defense has been strong.

If they can continue to play solid defense to go with Aaron Rodgers passing, I believe this team will make it to the playoffs.

  • 11. Eagles (8-4)
  • 12. Giants (7-5)
  • 13. Jaguars (7-5)
  • 14. Ravens (6-6)
  • 15. Steelers (6-6)
  • 16. Dolphins (6-6)
  • 17. Titans (5-7)
  • 18. Falcons (6-6)
  • 19. Jets (6-6)
  • 20. Seahawks (6-6)
  • 21. 49ers (5-7)
  • 22. Texans (5-7)
  • 23. Panthers (5-7)
  • 24. Raiders (4-8)
  • 25. Bills (4-8)
  • 26. Redskins (3-9)
  • 27. Bears (5-7)
  • 28. Chiefs (3-9)
  • 29. Lions (2-10)
  • 30. Buccaneers (1-10)
  • 31. Browns (1-10)
  • 32. Rams (1-10)
