Bye Bye College Football.

Thank You BCS!

I can remember getting on YouTube this July and watching a few college football preview videos, I was so excited. I might have even giggled a bit. This season was going to be great, it felt like Michigan was going to be Michigan again, Notre Dame was going to be back on top, the Tide was rolling and Florida still had Tim Tebow. We had all the BCS busting talk with BYU, TCU, Utah and Boise all ranked pretty high and Houston playing well.  Michigan and Notre Dame didn’t hold up but they didn’t need to, there was plenty to be excited for. Florida and Alabama heading for a collision in the SEC title game, Cincinnati kept on winning, and USC kept on losing. Oregon wins a highly contested Pac 10 even after the punch heard round the world. Boise’s Kellen Moore was putting up insane numbers including 39 TD’s and only 3 ints. With all of this TCU appeared to be the most dominating team at the end of the season with teams like Alabama and Texas having close calls against mediocre teams. Even Cincinnati had to pull off a last minute drive and missed extra point to win their game.

I’m not a complete idiot, I didn’t expect TCU to play for the National Championship, but that’s not what we wanted. As fans we wanted to see if we were wrong, if this talk of a weak conference was worth the hosting costs of the site it was written on. Maybe we are delusional thinking we can actually compete with the big boys, they do get ten times the money, ten times the talent and ten times the support. What are we thinking, right? That football doesn’t come down to heart and hard work, that all that matters are 40 yard dash times and bench press numbers, that the size of the stadium correlates to the greatness of a football team. Then we remember that non-BCS schools are 3-1.  Queue excuses now, “They didn’t want to be there”, “It was a lose lose situation”, “We were missing one lineman”, “They weren’t that good an AQ team”. If TCU and Boise don’t belong, have them get beat by two of your superior teams, end of discussion. No one is crying now, it’s obvious right?

Thank you BCS, I’m done with college football. All those NFL fans that laughed at the fact that I would watch inferior talent play for a fake championship were right. A bowl system? Why doesn’t any other sport do a bowl system? Cause it’s lame. Sports are about champions not making everyone feel good at the end of the season. After years of preaching the pasion and the upsets that are key to college football, I realize they were right.

Why didn’t I see this sooner?  I’ve wasted so much of my life watching this garbage and now it’s time to let go. What else can I do as a fan? The one thing I can do is walk away. College football is great but would you watch the Rocky Movies if Rocky himself got knocked out in the first round of every final movie fight?
