Another Great Boxer Get's Robbed

Boxing Whisperer ....Dec 6, 2009

On Dec, 5,2009 two of boxing's most avoided fighters were scheduled to fight. Paul "The Punisher" Williams vs. Kelly 'The Ghost" Pavlik. Unfortunately, due to a staff infection Pavlik had to pull out of the fight. So, the Williams camp was faced with having to find a late replacement in a couple weeks notice.

Sergio "The Maravilla" Martinez from Argentina answers the call. Martinez has only fought in the U.S. on a prior occasion against Kermit Cintron. Many believe he won but the judges believed otherwise. Martinez is known for being a very crafty fighter but the Williams camp believe they can beat anyone from 147-160. So they agree to set up the fight.

Round one, both fighters start exchanging...boom Martinez gets caught. Wow, i'm thinking Williams ain't no joke. Then, Martinez gets up, keeps exchanging with Williams and with ten seconds remaining ...boom he scores a knockdown. The first round sets the precedent for the rest of the fight. The fight continues in this grueling pace for the next 10 rounds. In round 11 it's oblivious Martinez is tired. Williams sees this and throws even more punches. But Martinez dodges, counters and lands!

In the end when the announcer reads the score cards i just could't believe what i was hearing, 119-110 Williams (that means Martinez won only one round), another one had it a draw and the other one had it 115-113 (Williams winning by 2 rounds). There is no possible way Williams won this fight.  This is exactly what gives boxing a dirty name. When are we going to stand up and say "no mas".  We will not put up with crooked judges and demand that there be some kind of "system" in  place for choosing competent judges.

I think we all like to see good fights. The thing is that we put so much e emphasis on unbeaten fighters. And once they lose we kinda brush them off rather than embrace them for the bravery they have displayed. If not we get stuck with good fighters fighting bums in order to keep their records in good standing. (Maywather)

Respectfully,
