1.    SELANNE BRAKES HAND

On Thursday night the Anaheim Ducks who are having a disappointing season suffered another huge setback as their veteran leader Teemu Selanne broke a bone in his hand. At 39 years of age this 16 year veteran is still a dangerous player who prior to getting injured was on pace for a respectable 42 goals and 63 points. If the Ducks are to make a push for a playoff spot they will need Selanne who on Friday had successful surgery on the hand. This former 1988 Winnipeg Jets first round draft choice who was injured in a game against the Dallas Stars is expected to miss somewhere between four to six weeks.

2.    GUSTAVSSON UNDERGOES ANOTHER HEART PROCEDURE

Toronto Maple Leafs rookie goaltender Jonas Gustavsson experienced a big health scare on Tuesday night involving an abnormal heart rhythm. Gustavsson who has played in 16 games this season didn’t return to the nets after twenty minutes on Tuesday in Montreal against the Canadiens due to an accelerated heart beat. After meeting with a cardiologist at the hospital it was decided that the 25 year-old would have a non-surgical procedure performed on Friday to correct his heart rhythm. Gustavsson who signed last summer had an earlier procedure done in September to address his heart.

 3.    SHANAHAN WORKING AT NHL HEADQUARTERS

After hanging up his skates and calling it a career 40 year-old Brendan Shanahan who scored over 600 goals in his storied career has joined the NHL front office and will be working under the title of vice president of hockey and business development. No details about his responsibilities were revealed at this time.
