Baylor Basketball on a Roll, Improves to 7-1 with Big Break on Horizon

Denton RamseyDec 5, 2009

Down by nine with about eight minutes remaining on Thursday night against Arizona State on the road, Baylor head coach Scott Drew signaled for a timeout.

As the Bears huddled around Drew, one thing became apparent: Baylor was destined to win behind clutch shooting from their stars.
By the time the final buzzer sounded, Drew’s Bears had pulled off the improbable with a 64-61 come-from-behind victory to improve to 7-1 on the young season.

Tweety Carter scored 27 points to help rally Baylor to the win, draining seven 3's in the process, as Drew and the Bears now await a long break for final exams before returning to the hardwood on Dec. 15 at the Ferrell Center.

"Tweety really put us on his back on that stretch," Drew told Baylor's Official Athletic Website . "Credit the guys on the floor with finding him and getting him the ball and some great screens."

Carter also keyed a 14-0 green and gold run with four 3's to give Baylor a brief five-point lead before Arizona State battled back to tie the game at 58.

"He [Carter] was always a great shooter and scorer, and it is his turn to step up and accept some responsibility," Drew said. "Before, he was more a guy who distributed for others. Now he has to do both. He's very capable of that."

Baylor returns to action on Dec. 15 in a home game against Jackson State, with tipoff slated for 7 p.m.
