Boston College Wins at Michigan, Now Prepares For an Early ACC Test

Paul SeaverDec 5, 2009

As part of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge this past week, the Eagles of Boston College were scheduled for a road game in Ann Arbor. After struggling in the Old Spice Classic, the Wolverines needed a win to get back on track and avoid falling to 3-3.

However, it was not to be for Michigan. Led by Corey Raji, Boston College came out strong and never looked back.

The Eagles broke out to a 27-18 lead just over the midway point in the first half. Corey Raji had 17 points, and the Wolverines had a total of 18 as a team.

In the second half, it was evident Michigan had dug themselves too deep of a hole. They trailed by double digits much of the second half before making a last ditch effort to come back. Manny Harris banked in a three to cut the lead to 57-51, but BC used a late defensive stop and free throws to seal the game, 62-58.

Michigan was poised for one of their better years, but it has been quite the disappointment to begin the season. Boston College, on the other hand, embraces the statement win in Ann Arborand will look to build on back-to-back road wins as they prepare for an early scheduled ACC matchup on Sunday.

After victories on the road at Providence and Michigan, the Eagles now sit at 5-2 on the season. They have arrived back at Chestnut Hill, as Miami (FL) will pay a visit and provide an early conference test for both teams.

The Hurricanes have been nothing short of fantastic to begin the year, registering wins over South Carolina and Minnesota that highlight their impressive 8-0 start.

It will be the first matchup within ACC play for both teams, which increases its meaning as they do battle in early December.

Despite the consecutive road wins for the Eagles, they continue to play without Rakim Sanders. He is expected to be back very soon for BC; however, the fact remains that the Eagles are willing to make sure Sanders is completely healthy before returning instead of rushing him back to the lineup.

For the Eagles, the key has to be what lies right in front of them. Their game with Miami (FL) marks the beginning of an eight-game home stand, most of which are games in which they are heavily favored.

Al Skinner and the Eagles need to make sure they begin the home stand with a solid performance against the Hurricanes. At 8-0 Miami (FL) has started very strong, led by the play of their leaders Dwayne Collins, James Dews, and Malcolm Grant.

Miami (FL) (8-0) and Boston College (5-2) will tip at 3:00PM tomorrow afternoon, Sunday, December 6th.
