10 Things That Spoil the Beautiful Game

jake clarkeJun 17, 2008

I have recently done an article on the top five pet peeves of cricket, but I think football has more.

1. The amount of money footballers are paid is ridiculous, it is out of order. Some Premier League footballers are on £100,000 a week and they are complaining that's not enough. Fans struggle to come up with money to watch them play and they don't even acknowledge it.

2. The diving of players. This annoys me and most others because it is unsportsmanlike and not how the game should be played. It's cheating and over dramatic. When Ronaldo and Toni dive it seem as if a sniper has just shot them in the back of the head or legs.

3. The disrespect for referees. You don't see it in rugby so why in football?

It is another disgrace why footballers should be allowed to use the language they do to an official when they are supposed to be role models.

4. The tall fan that always sits in front of you so you can't see.

5. The food being too expensive—it's around $6 for a burger.

6. The drunk that turns up week-in and week-out and always shouts as if the players can hear him.

7. The old Highbury screamer. If you can remember the Highbury screamer you will remember that every time the players were near the net an almighty wail would rip through the crowd and split your ear drums.

8. Hooligans (self explanatory).

9. Liverpool (self explanatory also).

10. The amount of foreign players in our country and the teams in the Premier League. We should grow some talent instead of importing it.
