Why Floyd? Why Not? Manny Pacquiao's Venom and Floyd Mayweather's Antidote
I have no doubt that the title of this article will attract more Pacquiao fans than Mayweather fans.
Actually, let me re-phrase that, I have no doubt that the title of this article will attract more Anti-Mayweather fans than Mayweather fans.
But after all I've been hearing/reading about the "Pretty Boy," I really can see no discernible differences between Pac fans and Anti-Mayweather fans.
Blogs, message boards and the like are laced with "Gayweather," and a laundry list of less than flattering words towards the P4P champ.
If you're going to analyze two fighters (especially of this caliber) do it with a little bit of logical/cognitive thought, instead of "Mayweather's cocky! Manny hits harder! Manny will win!"
I'd like to add, before I start, I take nothing away from Manny I truly believe he will go down in the top four greatest of all time AT LEAST. At any rate, I'll break my argument down in accordance of opposition to reasons people think Pac will win.
Speed
Even the blind community knows the Pac man's got enough speed to make your eyes hurt just trying to follow them. He darts in and out so fast and without warning and fires off blazing flurries and is gone just as suddenly.
I believe Mayweather is faster, but it doesn't matter who is faster because their speed is so close that it won't be an advantage to either fighter. My counter to "Pac's Speed" is Mayweather's defense, most notably his reflexes.
Numerous of his opponents make post-fight comments on how it's near impossible to catch him. It's almost like the man has psychic abilities when he snaps/jerks his ahead back and to the side even when crisp jabs and combinations are thrown at him.
There is a reason he's earned the nickname "Pretty Boy" after all.
That's also Manny's weakness. I don't care if you're Filipino or if Manny himself is your blood relation, you cannot deny Pacman does not have good reflexes; he gets hit hard and he gets hit often.
Mayweather struggles against southpaws
I'm sure most of the people who I heard this from are basing that off of the recap they saw of Mayweather vs. Judah, and I'm sorry to burst your bubble but the reel was meant to be biased to goad Mayweather into a rematch.
I watched that fight, and what I witness was the methodic breakdown of a tremendously athletic fighter.
It wasn't Judah's southpaw stance that gave Mayweather trouble, it was the fact he was fighting someone with equal superhuman athleticism.
Mayweather wasn't missing shots because of the awkward style he faced, quite the opposite; he was connecting with surgical precision.
Mayweather is freakishly accurate and thus a southpaw stance won't make one bit of difference. You want to make him miss? Move your head.
Though that might not do much anyway, Pacquiao's head stays in the same place for 36 minutes.
Strength
Well you got me there. There is no doubt Pacman hits harder than the Pretty Boy. My argument with that is (as previously stated) Floyd Mayweather is the P4P king not because of his punishing offense, but his absolutely masterful defense and reinforced by the fact Mayweather has never been knocked down.
Many people don't know it simply because he doesn't really ever get hit, but Mayweather has one hell of a chin- watch Mayweather/Castillo.
As far as I can see, the ONLY way to uncrown Mayweather is you have to be more athletic than him, and quite frankly Pacquiao doesn't have the chops.
The ONLY person who had a shot at putting a blemish on that unbeaten record was Zab Judah, and unfortunately he's just a waste of God-given natural ability.
I'm not taking a single thing away from Pacquiao, he's a blessed fighter and I'm in awe of what he is capable of; I just think Mayweather is the better boxer.
I'm also not saying the Filipino won't give Mayweather the fight of his life; I believe/hope he does.
Mayweather will do himself well to mentally prepare himself for the simple truth that he will get hit like he never has before. This fight will break records in sales, and will go down as one of the greatest.
My advice, sit back and enjoy every minute of this one because when they look back on sports of the 21st century, Mayweather/Pacquiao will be at the top.
