Message To Louis Van Gaal: Fix Bayern Munich's Defense

Samrin HasibDec 3, 2009

A look at Bayern's fixture list next points out Gladbach and Juventus. Everyone thinks that Gladbach will come just to defend and may be they will. But there is a twist there: Last season Gladbach did manage to get a 2-2 draw because of Bayern's careless defence. Daniel Van Buyten, Martin Demichelis, and Philipp Lahm were all part of the defence, if I am correct.

Gladbach recently beat Schalke and Hamburg—and the loss was Schalke's first  for a while. They are not to be taken lightly as they are the in-form team in the Bundesliga at the moment and will be looking to cause an upset.

Gladbach have won only once in the Arena though and it won't be easy for them to get points. Michael Frontzeck, their coach also said that they have three points to lose and that sounds very confident, especially when you are playing an in-form Bayern.

Juventus need something out of their game against Bayern. Bayern have to win whereas Juve need a draw.

So, it's more of a do-or-die clash for Bayern rather than Juve. The Juve camp recently is in turmoil. Coach Ciro Ferrera is under-fire apparently and so is Diego. The Juve players where booed of by their own fans, when they arrived from Cagliari. Things are looking more rosy for Bayern than Juve at the moment.

Let's take a look at Bayern's defence then. Against Hanover, their defence put in one of the worst shifts they have put in this entire season and was saved only by Hans Joerg-Butt's exceptional keeping.

Holger Badstuber has been very good since being promoted from the reserves. Van Buyten has scored but his defensive performances haven't satisfied me. Philipp Lahm has slightly lost his way recently and I haven't really seen much of Demichelis to judge him.

The best thing would thus be sticking with the same defence. Andreas Goerlitz could fill in and so could Braafheid. But once again, the defence needs to be more organized. They have conceded few goals, but that's down to their goalkeeper bailing them out at times.

Van Gaal prior to both matches needs to have a few words with his defence. Van Buyten especially disappointed me against Hanover.

Cheers to Bayern.

A hopeful prediction for the Gladbach game is 2-1 to Bayern and the Juve game can wait!
