The Weber State Wildcats may be the cream of the crop in the Big Sky Conference this season, but we still feel that the Utah Utes have a big class edge that should carry them to victory when they make the short trip to Ogden this evening.
The Wildcats may be the preseason favorites to win he Big Sky, but they are off to a terrible start so far at 1-4 with the lone win coming in a non-lined game over something called Western State. They lost their last game vs. another Mountain West opponent in BYU by 17 points, albeit on the road. They lost their only home game vs. a Division I school, a 66-60 set back to Utah State.
Now the Utes are a somewhat disappointing 3-3, but at least they have lost to a couple of Division I schools in Oklahoma State and Idaho and they do own a nice upset win over Illinois as eight-point underdogs.
Despite playing the much tougher early schedule, the Utes are still outscoring their DI opponents by +1.8 points per game, while Weber State is being outscored by -9.0 points while going 0-4 vs. a softer D1 slate than the Utes have faced. Utah has also won the last eight head-to-head meetings vs. their upstart in-state rivals.
Most importantly, the Utes will not take Weber State lightly because of that rivalry, and a fully focused Utah team is simply a much better team and should overcome playing on the road, especially in a venue that is a short trip for their own home fans.
CBB Free Pick: Utah -1 (-110)
