Could Deuce Get Loose One More Time for New Orleans Saints?

nathan dugasDec 1, 2009

Not going to try and take anything away from the perfect season the New Orleans Saints are having ,but to me something has always been missing from this team. When I think of the all time great players this franchise has had and some of the most beloved players this franchise has possessed none rank higher than that first round draft choice we wasted on some injury prone Ole Miss Rebel...not that guy named Archie.

Deuce McAllister through and through was the heart and soul of every Saints team since 2002. He performed at the highest level every week and was considered one of the best backs in the league before his first true career threatening injury in 2005...really really dark year for the Saints...New Orleans...Louisiana...ok everybody had a rough '05.

However, the greatest season in Saints history followed and had it not been for No. 26 the Saints would have never made the NFC title game.

The reason I bring this up is because me and some friends were discussing a Tiki Barber like scenario to sort of make an ammends with This franchise's best player(that's one of the shortest title reigns in history though...damn that Purdue quarterback we picked up I hear he is a decent QB but some say he is still too short to play at the NFL level).

Deuce was shown the door after his second major knee injury and rightfully so he is over 30 and blew out both his knees from any logical standpoint you can not have that guy on your team if he is expected to be a major contributor.

Then again, how can any true saints fan look at Deuce from a logical standpoint? A guy who gave you his heart and soul and never left this city even when he could have to play for a contender before either of those injuries and had a career that maybe plays out differently is also illogical.

A guy who was as active and meant as much as he did to the community and always seemed to give more than he took seems very illogical from a multi-probowler in a day an age of the Terrell Owens' and me first type players.

The guy was a Saint to this community, franchise, and anyone who knew him. If the Saints are(big if) going to have the perfect season or even try for it...it only seems logical to me to give the perfect ending to a Saint.

By the way, how did that Mike Mckenzie pickup work out? Wasn't he also someone who was suppose to be done after blowing out his knee last year as well....just saying. Something to think about perhaps. Not to mention all three of our backs have been hurt at some point in time this past year...he could come in handy if nothing else its always nice to see him in our uniform all smiles.
