Can Arsenal Cut Their Eleven Point Deficit To Win The EPL?

Snide CommentsNov 30, 2009

With Arsenal being maltreated at home to Chelsea, Arsenal find themselves sitting behind T'tham Hotspurs, the disgust. But whose fault is that we could partly say it Wenger's fault for not signing players, or the squad is not mature enough, but that's another topic for another pundit.

I was doing some research after the game yesterday and found out that in Arsene Wenger's first season as manager he overcame a whooping 11-point deficit during the last two weeks to be crowned champions of England, but this was in '98, almost 11 years ago( ironically we have 11 an 11 point deficit to cut).Arsenal winning that season with one point.

By the turn of the century, Arsene Wenger's team finished second twice, before winning it in their 01'-02' season, winning their last 13 games of the season. At the end of the season, Dixon and Adams left leaving defensive frailties in the back line and unsurprisingly Arsenal finished second the next season.

Then came Arsene Wenger's finest season "The Invincibles" the season started out good but along the line, it was so close Arsenal lead the table because their names started with an "A", but as the season progressed Chelsea who were second faltered, leaving Arsenal to win the trophy by April unbeaten.

Arsene Wenger's team started to falter after the invincibles as they lost five games in their next season finished behind Chelsea who broke the point record and finished with 95 and Arsenal with 83, wow.

The 2006 season brought disaster as Arsene Wenger finished fourth with 11 losses and a measly 67 points, next season they finished with 67 points.

Then came 2008 when Arsenal spent most of the season on top, but losses to Manchester United and Chelsea meant that Arsenal chance to once more rub shoulders with the big boys was stopped as they fell in March finishing the season with 83 points, which would have won the title in most leagues but England.

last season Arsenal lost the EPL in November( i wish i could put a smiley here), losing five games then going on a 21-match unbeaten run then finishing 18 points of with 72 points, also in recent history no team has lost five games and won the EPL.

So i guess history is against Arsenal because the last time they cut such deficit was in the '98 season where Wenger was a newbie with Arsenal. Since then Arsenal have taken control in every season they won. We could say Arsenal have a game in hand that could make it 8-points. As we all know Arsenal do not have the quality to push Chelsea or Manchester till the last day, as injuries to Van Persie might look to end Arsenal Premier League season which is disappointing as only ONE player out of Arsene Wenger's "potential" filled squad can seemilngly replace RVP and do a decent job which in my opinion is Eduardo, I will say thhis, Walcott is not mature enough to lead the line. Arsene Wenger has to spend in January if and only if he want to have a chance in the EPL.

Random Thoughts from Sunday's game

Chelsea are looking to break the 95 point record as they have taken max point from all top 10 encounters except Aston Villa and have scored the most goals, tied with Arsenal at 36.

Arsenal's squad depth is shallow, all substitutes from Chelsea could have made Arsenal team, Arsenal could have used Zhirkov at left back( where Traore was comical), Deco and Ballack in midfield.

Arsenal have only allowed an incredibly stingy 41 shots on their goal this season. But they've conceded 18 goals. Manuel Almunia? Sounds right we need a commanding goal keeper.

Arsenal's tallest players were Gallas and Vermaelen who were bullied by Drogba, while Chelsea's tallest player[s], no let me rephrase it, only two Chelsea players where shorter that Arsenal CB's Essien and Carvalho. How tall is Arsenal's lone striker supposed to be....6ft 1 in or more maybe like Adebayor, Drogba and Torres.

With Arsenal's best defensive minded midfielder of to Africa in Januray in the person of Song, the midfield will be a playground for crunch tackle teams.

Most recently i heard Arshavin had fallen out of love with the game...

Arsene Wenger's Christmas shopping list must include a CB, a DM and a Target man, not just any striker.

Thanks for Reading, this is all because i feel Arsenal have disappointed me and I still feel we can win the EPL.

Also, In Wenger we trust.
