Tiger Woods Says Accident His Fault
Tiger Woods, in his first public comments since his accident, claims he was entirely responsible for the accident that caused approximately $8,000 in damages to his Cadillac and left him injured.
"As you all know, I had a single-car accident earlier this week, and sustained some injuries. I have some cuts, bruising, and right now I'm pretty sore," he said.
It's good to know the No. 1 golfer in the world is okay, but what about the speculation that his wife caused the crash? Or that she was the one who injured his face by scratching it (as reported by TMZ).
Tiger says his wife, Elin, acted "courageously" when she saw that he was hurt, broke the car windows and freed him. He claimed any other assertion is "absolutely false."
"This is a private matter and I want to keep it that way. Although I understand there is curiosity, the many false, unfounded, and malicious rumors that are currently circulating about my family and me are irresponsible."
Rumors had been flying about Tiger since the accident, but he hasn't changed his story or given in to media or police pressure for information. The statement was made on his terms and on his website.
Woods says he understands the public's desire for information, "But, I would also ask for some understanding that my family and I deserve some privacy, no matter how intrusive some people can be."
It also came to light today that Tiger has no legal obligation to meet with Florida police over his car accident, although it would be highly unusual not to do so.
It doesn't appear we will be getting too much more actual information on what happened, but keep your ears open.
